In reflecting over the last week I realized that our family was blessed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. We didn't lose power, have any damage or even have loss of satellite signal. But a number of our other members do not appear to be so lucky.
While many areas were hit by Sandy those in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut got it the worst. As I look at our memberlist I notice that a number of our members from these areas haven't been online since the storm hit. For these members I expect that checking in to SatelliteGuys and giving a status update is the last thing on their minds. I can only hope and prey they are ok. I hope you will keep your fellow SatelliteGuys Members in your thoughts and prayers.
For many of these people in these areas no matter how prepared they were for this storm no one could expect what happened. Many are without power, water, gas, food or even homes.
For all members you might have noticed a new ad, being displayed on all pages, this is an ad for the American Red Cross. I ask that all members open their hearts and donate to the Red Cross. I will be making a donation myself to help those who need help from this disaster. When making donations PLEASE do it only through the Red Cross Website. When these things happen unfortunately a lot of scams pop up which takes your money but that money never goes to help the people who need help. Again please only donate to the Red Cross through the Red Cross website.
I know this week we are doing our semi-annual Pub Membership Drive and Charity Benefit which this year benefits the kids of Make-A-Wish, however I would encourage members to donate to the Red Cross first before participating in our fundraiser. I got to be honest I almost considered canceling our membership drive / fund raiser because of Sandy, however I decided to push ahead because I had this planned for awhile and have already notified Make-A-Wish that we were doing this for them. I am going to keep pushing our fundraiser for the kids, but I understand there is a bigger priority out there.
November is a month to give thanks, so take a look around you and if you have a reason to give thanks then I encourage you to do your part and give thanks be helping those who need the help. Anything you can do is better then nothing.
Thank you for your support!
