HR54-500 Setup

I'm a little embarrassed because I purchased a HR54-500 from Satellite Guy via eBay but haven't set it up yet. I got a message after I purchased this stating "...call directv 1-800-531-500 and check IRD xxxx xxxx xxxx ans activate under your account..." The phone number is missing a digit, but that should be a big deal.

I'm assuming I just:

1. Plug the SATA hard drive into the HR54
2. Connect the HR54 to the supplied transformer and 120 VAC outlet
3. Connect the HR54 to the supplied Direct TV transformer and then to the 120 VAC outlet
4. Connect the Coax cable from the satellite to the back of the HR54
5. Connect the HDMI cable from the HR54 to the TV

Then what?

I would suggest - You power the SATA Drive First for at least 1 min before Powering the HR54 other than that you good

I would have though there was some info on going through the Direct TV menu and somehow accepting the new device?

1-800-531-5000 First thing is you need to call D* and Activate the receiver to your account (since) you purchased it as owned you will need to Call and Pay $20 for a New Access Card for the "new" to your receiver.

Ok now i'm upset...Direct TV associates this box with a woman in Fontana California.

I the IRD number comes up on the TV and it's the same as on the back label of the HR54. Direct TV gave me the Serial Number of the Box and sure enough it matches the serial number on the back label...

I got this on ebay from SatelliteGuy...

Well -If that's the case-then you now have a Door stop - But Learning from your mistake if you choose to buy another from ebay -Call D* First with the IRD # and see if it's okay to be resold.

Of course your other choice is to contact the ebay seller to see if you can return it first - Next time just call D* and order what you want or Some place like soild signal to get a Good receiver. Education can be expensive

What is Directv saying, that it's a leased box or an owned box? You bought it from someone on this forum?

I checked eBay for SatalliteGuy909 and also SatelliteGuy909. Neither is a member. Check the name again if you can. Did he claim it was an owned unit?
