Since switching to D* almost a month ago, I noticed jittery video at times with my new HR44 installation. Trying to figure out what was going on and a definitive fix was problematic as I couldn't discern what kicked it in as it didn't show up much. Finally I found that it was when going from a VOD to other shows, either recorded or live and vice versa.

IOW, when going from live/recorded to VOD, sometimes the VOD would be jittery as if the stream wasn't good enough. Faster motion showed it very quickly, but overall the picture just felt 'wrong' overall. And vice-versa, coming out of a VOD could sometimes cause it in the live/other recordings. From that I knew it wasn't a streaming issue, but was still uncertain what in the HDMI chain wasn't 'catching' right.

My HDMI chain is HR44-->Denon 2113CI AVR-->Mitsi DLP.

I took HDMI out of the picture altogether via component cable and the problem never surfaced, so I knew it was in the HDMI chain.

I had the HR44 connected to the 'Game' HDMI input on the Denon and moved it to the Cable/Sat to fix it. No joy.

The final solution was to turn off all video twiddling in the Denon so it is just a simple pass-through. This fixed it and the picture is wonderful with no jittering when changing video source on the HR44. I've got the HR44 set to Native On, all resolutions as I prefer it that way, so all the de-interlacing and upscaling is now being done by the TV. HD PQ is superb and SD PQ is very watcheable on most SD channels.

Odd part is that the Denon had been better at doing the de-interlacing and upscaling with my previous HR24-500 and Hopper w/Sling. This is the first and only gear that has not worked better that way. I have to wonder what is going on differently with the HR44 than the previous gear. But otherwise I'm glad I have this semi-rare but irritating issue solved.

I noticed the same thing with my standard HD DVR, soon as I switched from component to HDMI, every now and then the video kinda stutters. Sound is fine though.

Newer technology and different chips, not much in common between the two recvrs.

I know, but you'd think they would have their ducks in a row by now. :(

It isn't like HDMI is new and these issues don't show up with component video at all, or at least I've never seen them. Just damned irritating to have to go through these gyrations for something so simple.

I have not had any jittery video with my Denon AVR-1612 and HR44/700. I am just using this HDMI cable for all of my equipment connected to my AVR, but in the shorter version The longer one that is linked, is the one I am using between the AVR & tv. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L1ZYYM/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm using similar cable. Got all new of the latest tech when I got the 3D DLP set.

And note that it doesn't happen all the time, just often enough to notice and get irritated. Of course, as I get older, getting irritated at little stuff is much easier!! :)

good to hear you found the bug.
love hate hdmi, picture great but the interface not so much.
i've got jittery video on hr20, hr23 & hr44. by changing from a recording to live or just backing up the recording or changing the channel will fix it, just a pia.

I tried what you suggest, but while it would sometimes fix it, most times it didn't and required a 'reboot' of the AVR.

Now with the settings I've put in place in the chain, no issue at all.
