Since switching to D* almost a month ago, I noticed jittery video at times with my new HR44 installation. Trying to figure out what was going on and a definitive fix was problematic as I couldn't discern what kicked it in as it didn't show up much. Finally I found that it was when going from a VOD to other shows, either recorded or live and vice versa.
IOW, when going from live/recorded to VOD, sometimes the VOD would be jittery as if the stream wasn't good enough. Faster motion showed it very quickly, but overall the picture just felt 'wrong' overall. And vice-versa, coming out of a VOD could sometimes cause it in the live/other recordings. From that I knew it wasn't a streaming issue, but was still uncertain what in the HDMI chain wasn't 'catching' right.
My HDMI chain is HR44-->Denon 2113CI AVR-->Mitsi DLP.
I took HDMI out of the picture altogether via component cable and the problem never surfaced, so I knew it was in the HDMI chain.
I had the HR44 connected to the 'Game' HDMI input on the Denon and moved it to the Cable/Sat to fix it. No joy.
The final solution was to turn off all video twiddling in the Denon so it is just a simple pass-through. This fixed it and the picture is wonderful with no jittering when changing video source on the HR44. I've got the HR44 set to Native On, all resolutions as I prefer it that way, so all the de-interlacing and upscaling is now being done by the TV. HD PQ is superb and SD PQ is very watcheable on most SD channels.
Odd part is that the Denon had been better at doing the de-interlacing and upscaling with my previous HR24-500 and Hopper w/Sling. This is the first and only gear that has not worked better that way. I have to wonder what is going on differently with the HR44 than the previous gear. But otherwise I'm glad I have this semi-rare but irritating issue solved.
