How would you change this set up?

I recently purchased a 60" Samsung SUHD. It's replacing an old 55" LCD I "inherited" years ago; it never was a good set. That TV was connected to an HR24-100 standing alone. I also have an HR44-500 with 3 C41W-100 clients connected to various 32" to 48" sets. 5 sets total.

I'm moving sets around because we're finishing up some light remodeling, so I want to do it RIGHT. Obviously, I want to get 4K service for the new TV when available, so what would you do? Just replace the HR24 with the 4K HR54?

you have 2 options for 4k
either via RVU with a directv ready tv, or c61k
there is no genie that will output 4k via hdmi
oh and you cannot have an hr54 and hr44 on the same account


so replace a c41 with a c61k and put that on the new television

Thanks, so it sounds like a simple fix!! ...and I just looked into my model, it IS DirecTv ready.

not a total redo, just move the hr44 to a tv with a c41, and put a c61k on the new tv

leave eveything thing else as is

you will also need a new LNB, forgot about that

Yes thanks again. I didn't text what I meant; fixed my post. I think I have a free upgrade in July, so I'll wait until then; it's only a few months!!

when you ask how would i do it, is that strictly as it relates to D* or do you mean the whole kit and kaboodle? i got some ideas for the latter.

the cleanest setups usually involve running an HDMI cable in the wall to an AV reciever and then running all your inputs to that. weather that is under the TV or in an AV rack or somewhere else. the problem might arise though if your doing 4k over hdmi that a) you need a high speed HDMI cable for the length your using (not all are!) and that 2) the hdmi is plugged into the right port. plus i dont know if any av recievers are handling 4k yet. putting all the AV stuff in a rack where you can easily get to the back is nice when you have to futz with everything. you'll probably want a nice RF remote to go with your cookie too lol.

running an ethernet cable with that hdmi wouldnt be a bad idea either, keep the wifi interference down. plus a switch by the AV stuff so everything else can get hard wired too.

wifi speakers are nice if your drywall is done, otherwise i think 16 or 14 gague wire is considered the good stuff for speakers now a days. wires are again run to the av rack.

if you're putting all your AV stuff in a closed space, consider putting in a small fan for ventaltion, D* box can get quite hot if it doesnt have fresh air, and bake your HDD.

ill probably think of more things later.
