How to upgrade receiver?

I have a model 1000...ancient. Can I just to go Radio Shack and buy a model 311, plug in my current card, and be good to go?

You can just go down to RS, buy the 311 PACKAGE ($49.97 IF you can find one). Take it home, plug it in connect all the cables and call E* to activate it on your account!

The 311 does not have a removable card, it is an onboard (chip) based "card".
