I used a WD Essentials EHD to transfer programs from my 722K to my Hopper. I now want to use it with my computer again. However my computer is not seeing it at all. What am I doing wrong?

Uh, well it should detect it. What OS do you have? If Vista/7, click Start, right-click Computer, click Manage, click Disk Management, make sure you select the EHD and not any other drive, right-click it, click Format, click Quick Format, filesystem NTFS (or whatever else you want,) allocation unit size Default, OK.

Assuming Windows 7.....
Right click "Computer"
then click "Manage"
then click "Disk Management"
make sure you are working with the external disk....
I kind of forget from there but you may have to delete any partitions before formatting it.

I never was able to reformat my WD drive either. disc management would only show the drive sectors, not the entire drive
You should be able to clean up the drive with a free utility. EaseUS has a free tool called Partition Master that should do the trick. Go to Free Partition Magic alternative & free Partition Manager Software for Windows PC, Workstation and Server - EaseUS. or download from Free Download Magic Partition Manager freeware: EaseUS Partition Manager, Disk & Partition Copy and Partition Recovery Software.
I used it for a 3TB WD EHDD drive I thought I could use with my Popcorn Hour, tried with my Directv dvr then Dish... ended up using this software to reformat before pulling the drive & installing in my desktop a month or so ago...
WD also has a disk utility to format their drives WD Support / Downloads / Legacy External / WD Firewire External Hard Drive It worked on my WD EHDIt is called "External USB/FireWire Fat32 Formatting Utility"
I have the same problem. I interrupted the dish format on a new EHD. Now it has only 500 gb instead of the 1.5 tb available. I want to somehow reformat the EHD to get all of the available space.
