This morning one of my Hoppers had not performed the nitely update yet. Every now and then we got the popup asking to update but we wanted to continue watching a recording. So now that it is a good time to update the window doesn't pop up any more. I turned the Hopper off for a while and still nothing. I have tried a red button reset, advancing the guide till the end, performed a point dish check switch test, and unplugging the AC chord and letting her sit for a few minutes. My guide is still 24 hours behind my other Hopper guides and in the view counters listing, Fsck still reads yesterday 05/02/13 1:37am. I was able to get the 722 to update when needed but not my Hopper. How can I get my Hopper to perform the nitely update? Thanks

On Hopper the only way to try and get the guide updated is by turning off all Joeys, make sure there is an available tuner (RED button,) then reset the Hopper. If you're lucky, one of the available tuners will change to "Guide Update." If it doesn't, then you'll have to wait overnight with all linked Joeys off.

Did you have anything recording or was the power to that Hopper interrupted at around 1-1:30am?

No power interruption that I can tell and was not recording anything. This is the same Hopper that I am also having the five second sound delay issue when you punch the skip forward or skip back button. Been posting about it in this thread. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads...atching-recordings-from-one-hopper-on-another Maybe this Hopper is getting ill!!

I tried what you suggested and it did not work. Guide is still one day behind other Hoppers and the Fsck date did not change. I am not concerned about the guide being behind it is the updates that might have been missed but I am sure they will get caught up next update. Isn't the nitely update more than just a guide update?

Joeys off. Hopper off. No recording scheduled for 30 min and not recording now. After 1AM.
It usually starts on mine at 1:38 or 2:38 but probably is different for each.
TV can be on and will go blank or warn or ask about update--sometimes one, sometimes another.
Don't peek. Green light will come on briefly.

It will be nice when we have a choice for the nitely update. My Hopper updated last nite.

Amen. I've had to cancel that stupid dialog box three times tonight. It almost caught me while I was out of the room too.

Dish said they're working on it, but they've been saying that for a while now. I wonder if there really is a technical reason why they haven't added it yet?

They are probably too busy working on the next generation Hopper! LOL

What is the mid-day update? I haven't heard of that one but I am new to Hoppers. Thanks patmurphey.

I've noted that the guide ends at 1:30AM of the last day after the nightly update, but if you check the guide the next afternoon it ends 12 hours later. I'm never watching TV mid day, but I assume the update takes place in the background. Whenever my Hopper (rarely) misses an update it usually corrects in the next afternoon.

OK, I think I noticed that one time too long time ago on my 722s. I will see what my guides are doing now during the day. Maybe it is an auto thing the guides update a couple of times a day.

I also saw that on the 722k. never seen it on Hopper (yet.)

Did a check today on two Hopper Guides. Both Hoppers nitely update were complete around 01:30 AM CST this morning. AT 12:30 PM CST I advanced both guides to the end. They both went to Sun 5/12 12:30 PM. At 6:30 PM checked again and both guides went to Mon 5/13 12:30 PM. So bottom line is I guess guides advance 24 hours twice a day without the Hopper doing a reset. Or at least I did not see them do a reset and I was around them all day. However, I just looked at a third Hopper and it still says Sun 5/12 12:30 PM. So it did not advance again since the nitely update. Go figure, these Hoppers are driving me nuts!!

Taking a hint from someone, I think the guide update requires a free tuner. So probably can happen nearly any time.

Yep KKlare, that may have been the issue. 3HaloODST mentioned that earlier. The Hopper that the mid afternoon guide didn't update yesterday was being heavily used and may not had a free tuner. Now this morning three of my Hoppers nitely updates are complete and all three guides when advanced to the end the date/time is Mon 5/13 12:30 AM. That is an eight day schedule. I would think it should have been a nine day schedule since the nitely update was just done. I will take another look around mid day.

I only remember 8 days as the quoted schedule. They may be showing more to keep it near 8 given as it shortens before the next update.

If the reference to a free tuner is available before -- not disputing this, by the way -- but if that's the case, the nightly reboot probably has NOTHING to do with a guide update, other than it being a planned time to perform it as one of the things it does during a re-start.

I hear ya. I always had thought the nightly update the guide always got updated for sure and anything else they wanted to push to the receivers. Sure didn't see it on three of my Hoppers this morning. Do you know if the guide for Dish is loaded 8 or 9 days?

A non hostile goodbye
