I have been told that some of the receivers are slow and will take a few seconds to respond. Exactly how slow are they? How many seconds should I expect it to do something?

Changing channels can be slow

I have been D* subscriber since 1996 but just upgraded to HD 3 weeks ago. Have two HR24-200s, their newest, on MRV.

I do really, really like it BUT there is a noticeable delay in changing channels. On my TVs, the screen goes black for a 2 count and then it comes on the next channel. As you can imagine, this makes scrolling up the channel list a real pain. In contrast, my standard TV, non-networked DVR in a spare room changes the channels zip-zip.

I *assume* this slowness has to do with the 2 DVRs being networked but it is annoying. I have a very fast 10MB internet connection.

Anyone else see this or have a remedy or is it something one has to live with?

Hopefully someone can answer this for you and WELCOME Jack Rabbit ! What keeps going through my head is , Is this really a question ? Lol . I know it is . It just struck me as funny to ask such a question . And no disrespect intended . I just do not know how to answer that question as many variables may be involved .

Its just the time it takes to fill it's buffer and establish the video stream. All HD DVR's have a delay.

I have Comcast and Dish. They have the same delay.

Is your Native setting ON or Off ?

That will add or reduce time between channel changes due to the processing, If your using HDMI, it gives you all your info in one cable, but also takes longer to do the HDMI handshake.

The Native setting decides if the recvr does the processing or the TV, if it flows right thru the recvr and lets the TV do the processing, it takes less time.
If you ask the Recvr to do the processing then the TV also has to process what the recvr is asking for.

My HR24 is about 2 seconds,

You also have to specify if your going HD to HD or HD to SD as that will also determine the time frame

I posted the second comment, and in searching this forum think my channel-changing issue has to do with me having Native/On. I will switch as was recommended in other threads to see what happens.

I am amazed at how fast people respond here with pertinent information. Thanks! ;-)

Yep it really was a question. I do not have D* yet. I was asking to find out about what the average time is- if its hideously slow I will cancel the order.

Welcome to the Site.

We try ....
It's amazing how often someone is around to answer, makes ya wonder who's working and who's not !

It is good you are doing your homework on what matters to you . Hopefully you will be able to make an educated decision soon . Good luck in whatever direction you choose:)

yes I try to. There are a few things that matter to me but the most important are channel changing speed, and commercial sound level. I hear that E* blasts people out of their chair every time a commercial comes on- so that leaves them out.
