how many channels per transponder...

Hi all..

Two questions....

How many channels are on each transponder??

And with direct...Some of the birds i get great signal on some transponders and some i get 50% signal or less on transponders on the same sat that i get good signal with. Are some of the transponders just running on low power because they are not getting used??

The low power transponders are usually spot beams.. ie 4, 12, 18, 20 26, 28. If you are on the edge of the spot you will usually not have a strong signal. I live in a spot and get 90 on transponders 4, 20, and 28 since they offer locals to St. Louis and Kansas City and Memphis. I get 0 on 12, 18, and 26

Im not sure how many channels they are putting on a transponder these days. I think it's around 12.

I believe it's 13 full video channels - while you can't always tell what channels are on what x-ponders, on the Chicago locals, they put 13 locals on the Chicago spot beam x-ponder, then they ran out of space & put the other 4 locals on the Indy spotbeam, which I believe is now maxed out as well.
