How many 4:2:2 channels do you watch regularly?

I have been thinking about adding a dedicated receiver to my setup for the 4:2:2 channels. So far I see several CBS feeds and a few CBC listed. But is that really it? Maybe I'm thinking I'm missing something just because I know it's up there and other than recording it and playing it on the computer I can't see it.

I remember reading that 4:2:2 use was declining, but what will replace it? Not sure if it's worth purchasing a AZBox and have a switch to MPEG4 or something come next month.

HD 4:2:2 was used mainly for feeds that werent in HD. With more and more feeds being HD 4:2:2 isnt used as much

It's been over a month since I've watched a 4:2:2 feed . When there's one I want to see, I power up my Profs 7500 and tune the feed with Tsreader/VLC . Not a frequent occurrence these days.

There are very few 24/7 4:2:2 stations that I know of
Daystar on 101W (but its on like 3 other sats)
there is a 2nd channel on AMGTV (97w) but that is more of a feed

I think the rest are feeds

I thought about testing with my Twinhan Starbox I got last year when Brian was cleaning out the warehouse. My PC has various video out connections including HDMI. I may already have the solution I was looking for the SD feeds at least to see what's there.

I caught a couple of dvb-s2 sport feeds on 123 ku on saturday and there is a couple feeds on 99 c that I pickup (dvb-s)

My experience with it (5 years ago?) was that it was a dog.

Exactly. With MPEG4 (H.264) and HOM, the need for 4:2:2 has diminished drastically. Rarely do I see transmission orders requiring 4:2:2.

yup...those "3" feeds (if you catch my drift) seem to be 4:2:2 if they are SD

If it's a particular cable broadcaster, it's probably because they want the highest quality transmission
available for their feeds - HD and 4:2:2 video profile. I don't think that broadcaster has 4:2:2 set by mistake.

When I see 25 games from the same broadcaster in a year, and 2 of them are in 4:2:2 , I'd have to question whether it's deliberate. I suspect either a tech mid-cue or a different sat truck ...

I can't remember the last time I actually had to use either of my AZBox receivers because of 4.2.2?? As it stands now, all my FTA time is spent using S9s on both systems and to be honest, if I were to do this all over again there WOULD NOT be any AZBox receivers here.

Actually all of the above+! They are over priced, IMHO not as user friendly as the S9s and blind scan on them is slow as a snail. I can do TWO blind scans with the S9s in the time it takes my Ultra to do one.

If memory serves I believe I paid around $270 each for the two AZs I have and I have less than $200 in BOTH the S9s I'm using. The AZs have a bunch of features but most of them are useless to me and some don't work half the time anyway,ie, YouTube for instance. The AZs also have bugs in the firmware that have been there since day one and they are still NOT fixed a few years later but hey, they've introduced about 3 new models in that period of time??? Always time to make a new box but never enough time to fix the crap that's already out there.

Plain and simple. If u dont have any hardware that receives 422.. its always gonna be on your mind wishing you had it. 422 has and always will be on everyones wish list everytime a new receiver comes to the market. So stop kidding yourselves and pretend that 4.2.2 is not out there in the skies. I always find them signals mostly every weekend.
