How does directv send out its programming authorization code to STB ?

How does directv send out its programming authorization code to STB ?

is it via Phone line or via the satellite dish ?

but i think its via the satellite dish, if i not mistaken, right ?

The dish provides the updates. The phone line is for PPV order billing, and I have read that if you have sports packs that they will randomly send out call requests to make the STB phone home in an attempt to make sure you are not getting the residential pricing and then taking the STB to another location, thus they say that sports packs require a constantly connected phone line.

all i have is the total choice plus with locals, and HD package, and HD networks channels. and thats all.

have one HD stb, and an SD STB ?

i forgot to add that, i never order PPV's.

I've had NFL ST for four years now - no "phone home" happening on the two STB's that are not connected to a line, and never a problem.
