I am an extreme newbie and bought a h20 from BB after finding my TW cable signal was terrible on my new 50" plasma. My question is I have I cable running from my 3lnb dish to my h20 I am getting all of my current hd channels. Do I have to run a second line from the dish to the 2nd tuner port or can i split the signal at the recvr?

Thanks and try to explain it to me like a 4 year old.

The H20 should only have 1 tuner for Directv stuff and 1 input for Over the Air antenna. So 2 lines in, but its technically only 1 tuner viewable at a time. They key is, you may need to call Directv and have them upgrade your dish. The 3 LNB dish will not get the new HD channels coming up. Since you have the H20 already, you might get some credit offsets or a rebate on the cost of it. Do you have an external over the air antenna that you are using? Maybe when they install the new dish they can run a line for your OTA antenna.

Welcome to the forum:)

In order to get all the available HD channels we would need to know your zip code. You would need a 5 lnb dish to get local channels and rsns, if available, in HD.

When D* lights up the new bird next month you will need to have the 5 lnb dish in order to receive any new national HD channels. Also you would want to make sure that you installed the B Band converter that came with your receiver.

I am a little confused as to

"Do I have to run a second line from the dish to the 2nd tuner port "

because the H20 only has 1 sat input, the HR20 has 2. If you were talking about the OTA input then yes a dedicated line has to be run from an OTA antenna to that input.

Call D* and have them install the 5 lnb for you. There shouldn't be a cost for it.

Sorry guys I have a HR20-700 and it has 2 sat ant inputs. Can i just split the line with a splitter before hooking up to the receiver?

No, you need two separate lines from the dish to the dvr. There is a single wire setup in beta testing, but it's not available yet.
