How do firmware updates work on D*?

I know with cable, they would just automatically send the updates through the cable to your STB. Is it the same way with D* or do you need to be connected online to receive their updates?

Same with Direct. It downloads automatically and installs..

It usually happens overnight. If you happen to be watching, a popup will ask you if you want to do the upgrade or wait (you won't be able to watch anything while it is upgrading). It normally takes about 20 minutes. The box can be in standby.
