Interesting! Thank you for educating me! I wonder is we can get a sticky of all acronyms used in this forum, including definitions of what each receiver number is, etc. I know many regulars know these things, but noobs don't. I am betting that some people come to the site, but may not understand what is being discussed and are afraid to ask, so they leave. That would be a shame if so, because there is so much to learn here.

We may use 5000 acronyms here at times. It is easier to answer the occasional question then to build a chart....

Situations like this is a good reason to have OTA capability. Thunderstorm signal loss is the best reason and of course being able to view some of the non big four network OTA channels. Also having the ability to record another channel.

Non O&O here also, but have OTA with both Dish & DIRECTV so only guide data would be lost, have the latter will give me Showtime access also...

We sell a good amount of antennas in a year for a variety of reasons. The majority of these customers have Dish and want the addition of OTA. We use a mount that piggy backs off the dish so there doesn't need to be a second mount on the house.

That is a good idea. I have mine mounted in the attic and amplified. Pulls in 100% signal strength for most channels, but I am lucky the OTA stations are only about 25 miles away and in the same direction.

Looks good Charles! That would never work here though. We have occasional earthquakes and it would have to be secured so it couldn't move.

WOW, good idea Bobby. I never thought of that. We have occasional earthquakes not too far from here (so far). I purposely left it unbolted so I could easily adjust it if needed. She is mounted about a foot from the access hole to the attic so I wouldn't have to get in the attic to adjust it. I am glad CBS is not O&O in our area, it is our favorite network channel. We watch around 16 (plus or minus) programs a week on the CBS channel.

Wouldn't work here because we have channels on Lo VHF and Hi VHF and we're 50 miles from the tower with mountains in the way. My antenna is 14 feet long.

OUCH!! Do you pull in good signal strength with that there gorilla antenna? That is a huge one.

That looks really nice. Wish I could have an OTA setup that easy. Living 65 miles LOS from Birmingham, I doubt that would work here.
I have a 60' tower that is about 25 years old, had the antennas, cable, and roter replaced in 2009, lighting took the whole thing out in summer of 2013, and the guy that climbed that tower to install that equipment is out of business now, can't find anyone else to do it, and I sure as hell ain't climbing 60'. So, I just get locals from Dish only now.

I have vaulted ceilings throughout the house so the attic crawl space is only like 3 foot clearance for me to get to the living room area to even be able to feed a cable to it. The only bigger area in the attic is above the garage/kitchen, which is nowhere near the living room.

I live 65 miles from Kansas City and I get very good signal on almost every channel and I have mine in the attic.

My attic is a long ways from my living room hopper. (Right next to my kids' bedroom hopper). I have a splitter and a booster on it. Works great. I split the signal 3 ways. Have it go to 2 hoppers and 1 extra TV that is not hooked up to Dish.

My concern isn't long runs of cable, but just the contortionist maneuvers I'd have to make just to get it there. Plus, I'm claustrophobic.

Some use these acronyms to save keystrokes. Others use them to appear as though they are "insiders" or "in the know".
The best policy is to query those that use them. That's what I do anyway.
