i not big NBA fan but because i live in Erie, PA i always got the Cleveland Games as my local game and sometime i would watch but, today i email from direcTV saying if you want to continue to get the Cleveland Games you now have subscribe to NBA League Pass!, why would DirecTV take away a local team from a market? it this something to get more subscribe to NBA League Pass?

This has nothing to do with D. Instead it is the NBA and the Cavs as they have changed their demographics for their audience. D was being proactive by letting you know the change in advance.
Nba is as bad perhaps worse than the NFL and MLB when it comes to designated markets.I ran into that with the Charlotte Bobcats year before last.We are listed as a Charlotte market but since we are roughly 125mi away we were blacked out of Bobcat games.They have since changed it,although the bobcats still suck.

Nobody's worse than MLB when it comes to designated markets. A lot of them just don't make sense. Vegas, where I live, has 6 MLB teams claiming them as their home market. The closest team is 275 miles away. Makes no sense whatsoever to have that many teams claim one market, especially when none of those teams are even reasonably close to you in order to attend games in person. The NFL is pretty simple. If you live within 75 miles of the stadium in which a team plays their home games, you're in their market.
Yea its definitely not a perfect science.For example we are just a little over 125 miles from Charlotte.If the Panthers were to have a game blacked out we would be blacked out here because Charlotte locals are designated as our locals.If anything we should be considered a secondary market.We get crapped out of extra doubleheader games as well.
every square inch of the CONUS is claimed by at least one MLB team. Iowa is also claimed by 6 teams

We get the St. Louis Cardinals but no KC Royals even though we are closer to KC. (Not that I'm complaining.)
When did they change the Bobcats rules? Last season, I couldn't get them about 100 miles from Charlotte. I "moved" to Lexington to get the games (and WSOC). I'd like them to come out and re-align my dish and add a 5-lnb thingy so if I could "move" home for a bit and not lose the NBA (I could care less about the Bobcats...) that'd be a bonus.
Another thing to remember is if you are not in the local teams territory sometimes the RSN has different pricing for the providers....and if the provider doesnt pay for that "extended" portion the subs dont get it
As example Duluth, MN is claimed by both the Twins and Brewers (yet across the river in Superior, WI its just the Brewers)...anywho Dish only gives you the Twins games whereas DIrectv gives you both.

Here's a doozie of a blackout rule.....I'm in Hawaii and we are blacked out for ALL CA teams even though of course we are nowhere close to CA and a 6 hour, ~$500 flight away over miles of ocean!!!

Living in Hawaii, you should not be blacked out of any NFL game, being that the blackouts only occur if you're within 75 miles of the stadium.

In fact the whole territorial thing is stupid. It just does not apply to modern technology. It's all about protecting advertising dollars. For commercials few people watch.

You don't get NESN? If you do, then the Celtics are your local NBA team. If a game is shown on both NESN and TNT or ABC, you see the NESN feed.
