Hopper with Built In Sling and Hopper with External Sling

Is there a difference in what these two versions of the sling do? I have both and can't get the external sling to put recorded shows on an iPad. The Hopper with Sling built in does this flawlessly. Is each Sling doing as it was made to do? Is there a difference?

External sling on first gen Hopper will not transfer to ipad or android - processor is not built for that. Works for Dish Anywhere viewing only.

Umm, he said he has both and was very clear about his Hopper with Sling working just fine. Just a bit of confusion about the ability of Hopper 2000 and its inability to transfer.....
