I don't have the Snap installed in the H2 with the Joey right now, but I'll check out the U716 changes on that one tomorrow.
I understand your position. However, for us it was becoming IMPOSSIBLE and already unbearable to watch TV. Things were not only painfully slow (no one in the house was at all pleased about it) and other things BROKEN by the CUI update, for the first time since I've been with Dish, I was SERIOUSLY going to leave Dish and go to a competitor because it was becoming nearly impossible for us to get things to work, and certainly not going to put up with that considering how much we pay Dish each month--embarrased to say we are on the HIGH end; we are a whale, so I expect the return on such an extravagent expense on TV, which is important to us at this stage of our lives. It was going to be DirecTV or--UGH--Spectrum cable, but even those inferior tech MVPD's still would have been an improvement over the nearly useless two HWS's with super slow Joeys we had. It was really a difficult process just to watch TV.The H2 performance has not been an issue for me, nor has the tuner count. If there was a charge for the Snap, I likely wouldn't bother with it. Are the snappier menus nice? Sure... Do I miss them when I switch to the H2 without the Snap? Not really...
That's how the Hopper 1 was for us. Because of my doctoral studies, I spent five years mostly away from the TV, so I would watch programming that had a start and end (sports and movies). It was a nightmare for my wife and kids, as they watched more series programming. Even when I finished, I took more to shows like Westworld and Man in the High Castle, so I used the Roku and watched at friends and family's houses much more.I understand your position. Thankfully, Dish did the right thing and helped us along to a very reasonable upgrade, just like the old days. And it is thier response with reasonable terms that kept us from leaving, and is one of the reasons I still recommend Dish over any other MVPD. DIRT would also provide an option to gettng things resolved, that SHOULD be, I'm not talking about extras or deals, just things that the customer is entitled to with their subscription, that is not possible for other CSR's to fix.
I do quite a bit of paging through menus (always looking for something better to watch) and had to remember to go at a fairly slow pace so as to allow my HWS to keep up. Otherwise, go too fast and the HWS would many times choke and freeze up. The Snap module eliminated that problem.I spend a lot more time watching programs than I do paging through menus, so the scroll speed just isn't an issue. Or maybe being retired I'm less time aware...
I keep my favorites lists organized by categories, so it doesn't take a lot of paging to go through each one. As I said, the snappier menus with the Snap are nice, just not something I would pay extra for. Obviously you and others see it differently, and that's fine. I'm sure it was the many complaints from folks like you that prompted Dish to come up with the Snap, and that's a good thing...I do quite a bit of paging through menus (always looking for something better to watch) and had to remember to go at a fairly slow pace so as to allow my HWS to keep up. I was agonizing over the hassle of getting an H3 with changing the LNB's and transferring all my recordings, etc., but the Snap module eliminated the need for that. Besides, when they become generally available they're free, so why not get one since I assume all will it take is a phone call.I keep my favorites lists organized by categories, so it doesn't take a lot of paging to go through each one. Continue to be very happy with the snap on the HWS . Hoping that the up coming software update (soon ) shows some improvement on the Super Joey. That would make it a total package...

It is still in Beta, not full release. Just because you know it exists doesn't mean it's available. You are not being held hostage. You just have to wait for the product to be available.Meanwhile most of us are still waiting for ours. We shouldn't be held hostage just because Dish can't figure out how to make it work with two Hoppers. (Especially sad because Dish is the sole provider of hardware, software, and programming for their system.)
Blame Scott for going to Team Summit and broadcasting it to the world. It is still in Beta, not full release. Just because you know it exists doesn't mean it's available. You are not being held hostage. You just have to wait for the product to be available.

Oops, but we sent him there didn't we? I guess you have blame us then.
The costs to upgrade people to a H3 are a lot more then a $5 Hopper Snap. Most people are happy with what they have (might even love the red light) but their systems are slow. This is a way of upgrading people without spending a lot.
