Quick question, super sorry if covered before.
Looking at a hopper 3 and joeys, on a Joey can it mirror or watch what the hopper is watching, like a DVR show or TV, paused, stuff like that. Example hopper in basement, Joey upper living room, the wife likes watching with me, in a different location.
Is this possible???

Still have a 722k with analog modulator, 621, and 211 , debating getting equipment from this decade, lol

Thanks!!

No, cannot sync a recording like the 722k can. The Hopper 3 does not have a RF modulator.

So without the modulator, the hopper and Joey can not do that mirror , ??

That's how I do it now, didn't someone have a commercial pausing and walking around the house with the same source?? Not the hopper setup??

I hear ya, the Hopper system got shorted the modulator. That is why I added RF modulators to my HWSs.

I have OTA on my Hopper 3. On the Hopper I dialed in 003-1. Went to a Joey 2 linked to the Hopper and connected it to 003-1. Both play back at the same time. If the tuner is paused on one it will also pause the other.

As far as the DVR and TV being being accessed at the same time it is totally possible. If a program is stopped on one it can be resumed on the other at any time.

Yes, on the Joey, get to the "TV Activity" menu. It will show what is being watched off of the other tuner(s). Select "Basement TV" or whatever you call it and pick the "Join" option.

Confused here guys, sorry. Yeah, like a modulator, and how that works.
Not sure the OTA, is that only for OTA, with the mirroring??

Gdarwin, sounds like I am looking for. , TV and DVR, can the hopper and Joey 2 watch say the same DVR show together?? Paused together, the mirror image ??

Guessing the hopper setup, can sources be backfed, like with diplexer type things like with the VIP systems??
Currently have my modulator, antenna, and DBS signal on the same cable, I would only have 1 coax at the Joey locations,

Got a decent price on the upgrade, now just trying to figure out how the system will work, if that makes sense.
Thanks very much for all the help.

The modulator is the same as the OTA tuner.

TV and DVR will have their own tuner or source on the Hopper and the source can be the same program at the Hopper and the Joeys.. They will be paused separably and not be a mirror image. Joeys replace the second output from the 722. Mirroring goes away because each Joey can watch whatever they want.

You wont be back feeding. The Joeys are set up at each source and have their own coax feed.

Not in any supported fashion. Moca overlaps the OTA spectrum on the cable. There have been reports of success sharing the cable with a modulator with DPX tech (H1/H2), but you have to be careful what frequencies you choose for the modulator. I don't know if anyone's attempted with DPH tech.

I wouldn't attempt it unless you are up to speed on what is needed to accommodate moca. It won't be supported and the tech will not do anything close to what you want.

Trying to dump an antenna on the same cable is asking for trouble.

Can a Joey join a location without the OTA usb adapter??
The OTA usb adapter is not required at all, unless you want to use the Hopper to watch OTA channels not supplied by Dish.

gdarwin's comment that a modulator is the same as the OTA adapter is wrong. OTA adapters add OTA tuners to the Hopper, which a Joey then has access to as well. OTA adapters are not currently in stock. You will have to wait until the new dual tuner adapter ships if you want OTA.

Think of a Joey being a full receiver at each location. It can share a tuner (you can "join" an in use tuner session from the Hopper or another Joey) but there are enough tuners available doing so is usually more steps than necessary, just tune to the channel you want and watch.

Jm42, got ya, I have a second coax at the soon to be hopper 3 location I can send my stand alone modulator, and antenna into.
I'll make it super easy for the tech, 3 home runs, from the dish, 3 locations, nothing extra or fancy.

I'll get the analog side of my distribution system up and running after, but not backfed on anything going to a new hopper or Joey.
Thanks for the information, much appreciated

Adding to what JM42 has posted, as far as I know a Joey cannot join a Hopper that is watching a recording (sync) like the topic starter is wanting to do. Unless a Hopper 3 or a HWS with the new CUI has that capability, you will need to add a modulator to the Hopper.

You are correct. I'm having trouble going back to my VIP days.

I just double-checked this. People are getting me confused talking about OTA adapters, RF modulators, etc, etc.

The living room TV was on (this is where the Hopper is too). I went up to our bedroom, turned on the Joey, hit the Option key, then TV Activity, picked whatever tuner it was that said "Family room", then picked the "Join" option. I was now watching the same thing as what's on the other TV. They are FULLY sync'd too - I paused the bedroom showing, went downstairs, and it was paused.

You can have fun with this too, by the way !

Upgraded to H3, EHD now needs to reformat after 4 days
