Hopper 3 Not Available in my area

I've talked to two separate dish reps and both have said my LNB/Sat Dish is not compatible with the Hopper 3. Not sure why this would be an issue, since they can replace it with a new version, etc. My Sat Dish was installed on June 2012, so it can't be that outdated. I currently have the Hopper 1 with 3 Joeys. Can anyone help me out of this?

I've contacted DiRT on the forums to see if they can help me out. I've been out of contract since June 2014 and waiting to upgrade.

I believe this is the issue after DiRT contacted me back:

You can only receive 3 orbital locations in order to be able to set up a hopper 3 upgrade.

I currently have 4 orbital locations, so not sure what to do I believe 1 is used for international channels that I do not really need. I had it originally setup for when my parents or in laws visit so I could add international channels for a week or two and keep them busy.

Can you please send me a PM with your account #, and 4 digit Pin #. I can look into this for you.

And around the end of the year a newer LNB should come out that will support four sats. So if you later need to restore the Internationals, you'll have that option.

Cancel the international channel package and try ordering the Hopper 3 again.

I've also been told twice by chat and on the phone that it's not available in my area. I inquired as to when I can expect the cable to be run from the satellite to my house, but they couldn't give me an ETA. I guess until the cable is in place from high-earth orbit to my dish, I'm just out of luck. Sucks too - I'm out of contract, and am absolutely willing to upgrade and sign another contract for the Hopper 3, and I can't seem to get it. The phone person said to check with a local store and maybe it would be available through them.

On a side-note, the dish tech that was here a month ago said it was absurd that they would tell me this and to try again, which I have twice. What happened to Dish Support?

I'm stuck in the same situation. Can anyone help.

I would suggest both of you send a PM to one of the DIRT reps on this board if you haven't already. They are generally more knowledgeable (and more helpful) that a lot of the regular CSRs you deal with on phone/chat. They can review your account and verify H3 eligibility for you. In several of the cases where DIRT has been able to help, they were able to find out that folks accounts incorrectly listed the satellites their dishes were pointing to, which led to regular CSRs mistakenly telling them they couldn't have an H3.

I LOL'd at that.

Seriously, contact DIRT. They can take care of it or at the very least tell you why not.

Dish is saying NO UPGRADE available to those who are looking at more than 3 sats. There have been instances on this forum of people having been denied an H3 because Dish has incorrect info on that subs account. Once it was clear that the sub is looking only at 3 sats at most, the denial by Dish for technical reasons went away, as if my magic. Also, DIRT had been getting those looking at 4 sats set-up case by case, but now Dish seems to have no longer allowed DIRT to make ANY exceptions.

Fortunately, some CSR's have been, finally, giving the truthful answer of being denied an H3: because they are looking at more than 3 sats and the equipment to make that an ECONOMICAL install for Dish is not possible until the new DP24 switch is out (by January 2017 according to latest press). That switch will also allow ECONOMICAL installs of multiple H3's using only ONE reflector instead of TWO reflectors (Dish does not want to pay for that) or up to FOUR reflectors of someone wants TWO H3's and is looking at 4 sats--that is something Dish REALLY does not want to pay for.

I can tell you that in many instances when Dish claimed some "low beam" technical falderal (the real reason being Dish has that sub as looking at 118 on the WA) as being impossible to provide, even though a neighbor two doors down got an H3 installed, that impossible technical baloney sandwich vanished once it was clear the sub was only looking at 3 sats or when DIRT was able to make an exception to 4 sat install, which they now seem forbidden to allow. Lets remember 119 and 118.7 can be referred to as "co-located."

So, I would say, give DIRT a try and really find out if Dish has you down for FOUR sats when you may only really are looking at 3. But if it is 4 sats or if you want TWO H3's, even DIRT will say "NO," now. The alternative is to wait 3 more months for January 2017 when Dish is expected to have the new DP24 switch that will make all 4 sat and multiple H3's on one account ECONOMICAL for Dish to provide. And FWIW, I am glad I have chosen to wait until January because they H3 still has some serious bugs, and this gives Dish more time to fix them so that my experience with TWO H3's is likley to be better and more reliable than it is today. So count your blessings at having been denied. Check back here on the forum for the announcement of the DP24's availability and Dish providing H3 installs to ALL subs.

Just contacted Dish, to upgrade to Hopper 3. Was told that it was not available in my area. After pushing for more detail, I was told that the Hopper 3 equipment does not support the larger dish that I need. Not sure I understand this answer. Currently I have 2 satellites, 1 hopper sling box with dvr, 1 hopper box, and 4 joeys. Can someone explain this to me in laymen's terms.

When you say 2 satellites, do you mean 61.5 and 72? If so, contact DIRT and they will fix that for you... Bur, if you have 2 dishes, the question would be, why?

Ah, you have a dish that looks at 118. That is the issue. Maybe at the end of the year when a new switch is supposed to be available.

Yes. I have the international package Italian. I have the 250 channel package, and also local channels.

Solution: (run this by DIRT, they can help) You need to unsubscribe from the International package temporarily. Then, you should qualify for upgrade. When the tech comes, tell him not to take the old dish down. He will put up a new dish for your 250 on hopper. That new dish has an "LNB in" port, have him connect that to 118 from the old dish. Then you would just need to add the International package back.

H3 - identify the satellite# used and the signal strength - how?

Anyone trying to watch the Boston Bruins?
