Help with Harmony 880 + Dish-322

I am trying to help my father in law program his Harmony 880.
He just got a Dish-322 2 tuner unit. He has a Replay TV box and a Lite-on hard drive recorder.

When the installer came, my FIL had removed all components, and the installer hooked up one of the tuner outputs to the Ant input of the tv set to ch 3, and the other to the Aux input of his tv set to ch 76. Then my FIL put back all his boxes and connected the main ( think Blue) tuner to the Replay, and the 2nd Dish Tuner to the liteon. The replay uses an IR blaster to talk to the Dish 322.

My question is, when I am programming the Harmony, for say a function called Watch the Liteon, How do I have the harmony control the Dish-322 to change the channel on the 2nd tuner. It seems that whenever I put the Dish-322 into the settings, it never shows up as a dual tuner?

I don't think the 880 will do the tuner 2 as it is uhf, could be wrong. I use the 880 with a Dish 722 and never noticed any tuner 2 controls. You might find more info at AVS forum under the "Remote" section. BTW, I never use the two tuner option, although I have the second tuner hooked up to my DVD recorder so I can record while watching something different on tuner 1

I'm getting nowhere trying to figure out what you're setup looks like.

You need to use the terms TV1 and TV2 instead of tuner 1 or 2 or main and sub.

Blue is TV2 by the way, so calling it "main" is confusing.

Here's what I think you're trying to accomplish

322 TV1 -> ReplayTV -> TV Main RF input
322 TV2 -> Lite-on -> TV Aux RF input

Am I even close?

It seems like you could score big by using line level connections to get around some of the confusion. Having to make sure a device is off in order to see another device is kinda hokey (and not always possible).

IR control for TV2 is supposed to be added in the future to some models to accommodate use of TV2 for a Slingbox. As it is, TV2 is UHF only.

You don't even begin to realize how much more it will help in terms of other things than Slingbox.

Particularly for those of us who like to use universal remotes on a TV2 feed.

You are right on.

Yes. You have the setup described correctly. Please note that I do all the on line programming in Boston, while my FIL lives in
Florida. I have no control as to how he connects his devices.
So yes, he has

322 TV1 -> ReplayTV -> TV Main RF input
322 TV2 -> Lite-on -> TV Aux RF input

So that said, I am trying have a function that is
Watch Lite-on, and have the harmony control the TV2 tuner.
He has it set up so his lite-on, Replay and his Dish Unit on all the time. When he had the Dish unit off (or sleeping), he would see the Dish logo when his replay came up to record. I am sure he does not know how to have the Replay send an on signal to turn it on (if that is even possible).

This is not possible at this time due to TV2 remote sensing being RF only.

Home automation may be an overkill statement. Although home automation usually means the entire house, and some places in that house will no doubt be TV2...

But universal remotes can be desirable.

I have some older relatives using two 322's. With a universal remote on TV1 the power on button turns on the TV, sets the correct input, and turns on the 322 all with one button press. Pressing the off button turns off the TV and 322. This works no matter what state the equipment is in.

On TV2, they have to be careful not to change the channel on the TV. Because they can't figure out how to change channels or inputs (they don't get the fact that the TV is not doing the tuning, and despite my repeated attempts to explain it, it's useless).

So for them, who can't figure out how to switch inputs, but yet will somehow manage to get it on the wrong one, a cheap, macro-capable universal remote is a lifesaver.

It's also nice for rooms that have IR equipment that Dish remotes can't handle. Like the remote controlled window air conditioners in the bedroom, which is incidentially TV2.

I've had situations where I use two 311's instead of a 322, or a single HD box and a single SD box, just for the benefit of IR control.

A box that does this will be extremely helpful.
