We tried hooking up our tailgater this weekend. The only way we could get it to work was run the coax in through a window and directly into the receiver box. Is this the way it has to be? We thought you could use the cable in port on the outside of the trailer to get signal to the receivers. Is there some other sort of booster or something we have to have to get it to work through the outside port? It really sucks to have cable running in windows all over the place. Thanks.

If the coax input says cable, then odds are it that that coax runs to the OTA antenna plate. There it is switched with the antenna. When the power LED is on, the antenna is connected to the TV.ED off and the Cable coax is connected.. That is the typical RV setup. If you want to use the Cable coax input for satellite, you have to disconnect the cable from the OTA antenna plate and add an extension to the receiver.

Take the coax plate off inside the RV, if there's multiple Coax lines going to it, then the antenna is on an Analog amp.

You'll need to unplug the input and put a standard wall plate on it (my RV had a combo 12v cigarette lighter plug/amp on the line coming in)

Once i changed it to a standard wall plate (removing the amp/12v socket) it has worked fine since 2008

My 5th wheel is a 2005 and it's a straight shot from the cable jack outside to the inside wall plate. So it works fine as is with an external dish (have a crank up Winegard on the roof as well, but sometimes I need a different placement for LOS so I always pack a separate dish). I think most of the newer ones have either the combo ANT/booster posted above or possibly a splitter that also feeds the bedroom. Take off the coax plates and you should be able to figure it out.

On my last trailer I drilled thru the wall and added a sat jack to the existing OTA with boost option.

Materials are sold for just this purpose. It looked like it came from the factory like that.
