I have had my DirecTv for a few years now with no problems. I have a DVR w/ two cables in the living room and 3 regular receivers w/ single wires in bedrooms. Lately, when I'm watching something in the living room and someone turns on the same channel in one of the bedrooms both tv's go to "Searching for Signal" and stay that way until one of the receivers is changed to a new channel. Anyone ever heard of this happening? Might it be the multi-switch going bad in the attic? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to try is to bypass the multiswitch using barrel connectors.
This will help prove or disprove that the multiswitch is the problem.

If this is a traditional multiswitch system (NOT SWiM), there's a few issues here.. This is most likely a multiple LNB dish, in which case you can't just 'bypass' the multiswitch - you could only do that on a 18" round dish with 1 LNB. And unless it always happens on some channel numbers and not on others, it wouldn't be an LNB. It definitely sounds like the multiswitch is failing.
