Help get channels on viewsat

i switched lnb from the hughesnet to an xtr lnb and S=85 Q=0

My advice is: stick with one LNB, the one the dish came is fine, and as you were told previously, set it as Standard (or lineal)

And try to get sat 97ºW since its transponders are a bit stronger than 101ºW, after you get 97ºW then you could try to get History Channel and the Biography channel at 101ºW (transponder 12060 H, SR 26701).

At satellite 97ºW i recommend transponder 11789 V, SR 28125 (the channel Kuwait 2 has series, movies and cartoons in english with arabic subtitles but after a while those became negligible).

What receiver are you using? that way we might be of any help regarding the posibility of adding a new satellite or a new transponder that right now is not in your receiver's database.

Using a viewsat ultra and a hughesnet dish and lnb.

You will find it hard work, but you will find a signal much quicker if you can get your receiver and a tv up to the dish, where you can instantly see 'hints' of signal activity as you pan the dish back and forth. One of my first attempts at free to air was with that direcway dish, and while it was still on the roof (until I got smarter and put a pole in the ground for it).
I made a ton of trips up that ladder, to the tv and back, and finally pulled a power cord up there and took the receiver and tv up to it. Didn't take long at all then. Wouldn't try it right now though, in the 90's the roof will be extremely hot to electronics and human skin.

I had to get a pole and is in the process of curing will move the dish from the roof to the pole...sometime tomorrow.

No channels... for about 3 days i have tried both 97 and 101... the s=85 and Q=0-10...
Are there software updates...or is there a receiver that is much simpler or friendly...
I moved a small tv and rcvr close to the dish so that i dont have to keep running into the house...I have a hughesnet dish and just got a direc way dish and not much difference on either.

I need some help!!!

walltight, if you're sure your cables are good, and the pole is plumb, you probably just need to keep working on the aiming. Pick one satellite and stick to it until you find it. Go to dishpointer.com and put in your address to get the aiming coordinates for your location, the set them on your direcway dish. Adjust the skew as shown on the website, then select an active frequency on your target satellite, and start panning the dish slowly east and west, while watching your tv screen and sat-setup screen. Use The List (top of page here) to find a frequency to enter in your receiver, try to lock on it. Takes patience! If nothing, try adjusting elevation up or down a degree or two at a time, repeat the panning process. It will take a few passes of the dish, but eventually you should see that 'quality' bar light up.
I spent an hour today trying to aim my direcway over to 63W, never got one hint of signal on that one though-there's a tall walnut tree in the line of sight. So, I'm going to replant that pole/dish and try again. Can't see through trees very well, but you can certainly look around them! (by moving the dish)

If i skew the hughesnet dish will be to the left or right...its at 0 degrees now?

How do i scan for channels is it the manual/auto/blind...

actually in DFW 97W is very close to 0 skew so you should be fine

try a blind scan if you can

what transponder does it show 30 quality on?

OK that is actually a stronger transponder. You might want to try the skew and see maybe it that will help. Otherwise what I've done is tighten the bolts on the back of the dish (the ones that hold the dish to the mast) then "lean" into the dish to see if the quality level moves.

I assume you've tried the elevation change just a little bit? Sounds like you are VERY close

The Lower the Number, the More Accurate it is - takes more time too
If you are looking for Strong Transponders, you can try at 16.

Finally got my viewsat going...i have s=85 and q=75...getting alot of channels...
I had to get a new ws dish and lnb as my hughesnet and direcway werent getting me anything.

Everthing worked perfectly until this morning, there is no sound? What could be the issue...I have rescanned, turned off the rcvr...

Also how can i get local channels?

There are very little "locals" available on FTA satellite.

Are you within range of your locals using an OTA (indoor or rooftop) antenna? You may need a converter box if your tv isn't capable.

My Tv is capable of receiving the locals with an antenna...will get that going...
