What are the advantages of leasing the official Dish DVR, versus buying a "generic" DVR (Tivo series 1, or S2 w/basic, i.e. ones with no monthly fee - hope I'm using the right terminology, I just spent hours learning this stuff!)?
If you use the generic, can you still see the Dish program listings, including international channels? I think, based on reading I've done today, the answer is yes.
So what features come with the Dish DVR that I would miss if I just hooked up a standard receiver to one of the generic Tivos? I'm thinking it'll cost me the same amount of money to buy one of the Tivos, as it would to lease a DVR through Dish for 2 yrs. But if I will miss out on important features, then I would rather lease the official Dish DVR.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
