HDTV with weird lines

Hey everyone,

Had a question. I have a Sylvania 32 inch LCD HDTV. It's not very top notch, but does the job, ya know. It was a wedding gift from my in-laws. It's going on 2 years old now and I've been noticing some weird lines. The HD devices I have hooked to it are my DirecTV HD DVR and my PS3 and keep the settings at 1080i. But sometimes, on either device, I'll see some weird lines. The best way I can describe it is, its a bunch of lines that haven't refreshed yet to become part of the whole picture.

Has anyone ever seen this, or have the same problem? Thanks a bunch everyone. Stay Awesome.

If this is at the top of the screen, it's closed caption data which is straight upsampled into a 720p or 1080i space without being removed.

can that be remedied by adjusting the overscan?

Presumably yes, but that also means you're cutting off picture data on 1080 sources.
