Nielsen Company says 56% of TV homes have HDTV -- which can boast one of the fastest adopted consumer technologies ever. But viewers haven't bought into all HDTV services.
Only 13% of total day viewing on cable and 19% of viewing on broadcast television is HD viewing, which requires an HD television and HD tuner tuned to an HD channel.

I cannot understand why people buy an nice HD TV to only watch crappy stretched SD programming. The programming actually looks better on a SD TV

They don't know any better and nobody is willing to educate them. It really torques me when Comcast installers are required to use the low res RF connection to hook up HD cable boxes. People have put together everything they need and are thinking they are watching HD, but aren't due to a $10 cable.
