Why does every movie on HDNMV look like its been reduced in size, almost like a 16:9 movie being letter boxed into a 4:3 space.

HDNMV does the best job of preserving the original aspect ratio of the films they broadcast. Currently showing; "Disclosure", has the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen because the film was originally shot in a format greater than 16X9. Earlier in the day the film "Harvey" had the black bars on the sides. This was to preserve that film's OAR of 4X3.
You can always adjust the picture to your liking by using the * button on your remote (for E*) or on the TV itself.
But please don't ask the program providers to abandon OAR for something you can adjust yourself at home. Too few of them now using the OAR!

Are you talking about black bars at the top and at the bottom?
It's called OAR - Original Aspect Ratio. Unlike most of other channels HDNet Movies does not trim the picture to fit the TV screen and shows movies the way they were shown in theaters, the way intended by their directors.

Got it... haven't watched Harvey yet... I prefer OAR myself also as stretching or zooming add's artifacts imho...
