Are you sure that the internal speakers are on on your TV? Other than that you may have an issue with the cable or HDMI output on the receiver. Have you tried RCA's?
I've tried it all. I get video, just no audio. I know the tv speakers work because I have a TIVO hooked to it using RCA cables and it works just fine. I also get audio from the H20 when I have it hooked to my audio receiver via optical. Of the 3 possibilites, what has the best chance of being defective: 1. TV HDMI connection 2. HDMI cable or 3. HDMI port on the H20?
You have gone thru the DirecTV audio menu as described on pg51 and up? Anything there?
What about the user guide for the TV? Anything?
Well the cheapest and fastest test would be to try another cable; and I would not buy another one just like the one you already have.

I'm just curious, but if you have surround sound why would you want the speakers of the TV to work anyway.
I have not heard the speakers on my Sony WEGA in the 5 years I have owned it, actually I have never used either of the tuners in it either.
Why wont they sell a monitor type TV with no tuner or speakers. I would rather buy one without silly little speakers hanging on them.

Now I 100% agree with that Eric, but sometimes late at night some people like to use just the 2.0 stereo off the TV when watching talk, reruns or news; no need for multi-channel and maybe right before bed or while the wife and kids are asleep. (I leave mine on 24/7 like you).

Very valid question. Unfortunately, it's because of the wife. I actually had the speakers totally off the TV for a few months and she got sick of having to use the audio receiver to control the volume. Even though I had my harmony remote set to control everything.
As far as my original problem, my Plasma is the 42" Dell and I have checked all of the menus in there and saw nothing obvious. I'm going to try a new cable to see what happens.

Yes wives can be a funny bunch. I try to keep it simple for my wife ( I LIE ) and tell her it is wired so the TV speakers will not work. I say we have to chose between 5.1 or the TV speakers and since we have 3 grand in surround sound equipment she makes the obvious choice, dirty... yes, but it works for me!
I am glad that the onkyo lets me relabel the inputs for whatever I want so I made video 1 D* and video 2 DVD - so it is easy for her. I have laser disk run through the DVD input. and Xbox through the CD input. But when you hit the button it says the actual name of the component of the display.

I have been reading another post here about the H-20 optical output only outputing a mono signal until one RCA cable (L+R) is plugged into one of the H-20's (L+R) stereo outputs. Try hooking up a RCA cable to one of the H-20's (L+R) stereo outputs and see if the speakers in the plasma work... could be another glitch with the H-20. I know that you are using the HDMI connection but possibly there is a connection with the optical output problem of the H-20 and with the HDMI problem you are experiencing. As a note, people in the other post had the H-20 connected via HDMI to there TV but were using the optical output of the H-20 to go to an audio receiver. I did not read about any of them checking to see if the speakers on thier display worked connected through the HDMI output though. Just worth a shot.
