Now with the external HD available I will now think about replacing my 622. I lost the HDMI on it about 2 months ago but did not want to replace because of the movies and such I had on the reciever. Now, have there been any upgrades that fixed the problem? I hooked up a cable to the HDMI port and still get no picture or sound, Now I still have the reciever hooked up by components and wasn't sure if the reciever sense this connections and did not activate the HDMI port. I quality of the components are great but wanted the HDMI so it would free up the other ports for other things. Thanks

The HDMI and component outputs are both active at the same time. I have my 622 hooked up both ways and I can shuffle back and forth between inputs on my TV. Sure looks to me like your HDMI is bad. The only upgrade I'm familiar with is the addition of a screw just above the HDMI output that was added. I believe this was done to strengthen the board inside and keep it from being so fragile. The early 622's didn't have this. Hope this helps.

All 622s had the screw but early runs had a problem with the HDMI connector not being fully seated on the board when it was soldered resulting in the solder joints breaking with use. They also added a shim behind the screw to lessen stress on the connector.

Yes, all 622s have the screw, but the problem is not confined to early runs. Actually, I strongly believe that the screw pulls up on the connector and lifts it off the PCB.

I resoldered the connector on one of my 622s more then 6 months ago. At that time I loosened the screws on both of my boxes. I keep the cable supported so it doesn't jerk the connector around.

Both have been working fine since.

The only real fix for the 622 HDMI connector is the redesigned connector on the 722.
