I have a Sony Hi-Def tv model #KDP-57WS655 and a Dish VIP622 Hi-Def receiver.
I want to hook up a HDMI cable. Do I need a HDMI to a DVI cable to do this hook up or what?

Looking at the specs on your TV it shows 1 HDMI port, the 622 also has HDMI so you should just need a straight HDMI to HDMI cable.
