HD Tuner with Dish Net.

If you plan on watching HD content, the simple answer is YES.

It is not required though. You can use any dish network tuner for standard channels, but if you are spending a bunch of money on a big screen, then you may want to go with at least an 811.

If you want DVR and HD, then the only beast is the 921.

Check the Dish site at:

I would opt to go with a LEASE option rather than buy one outright. With the upcoming move to mpeg-4 ina year or so, laying good money down for a soon to be obsolete receiver isn't in your best interest.

Remember HD programming is $9.99 extra per month. If you sub now, you get a FREE 6 months!

I have a Hitachi 57S500 that just had its 1 YR birthday last month. It has been a flawless HT unit. I still haven't had mine ISF calibrated, but it looks super out of the box. I just cut the bightness and contrast to about 38%. It was way too bright.

http://www.hometheaterspot.com has a lot of useful info for your bigscreen along with others Hitachi owners.

This is the same as a thread called "What do I do" but you need a HD receiver IF you plan on ordering HD services, not just to get E*
