Stanton, Tn
I recently tried to upgrade to hd, and a tech came out and said it couldn't be done because of trees. Am presently on 110 and 119 with the dish on the house. He did not spend a lot of time surveying the situation. I live on a farm in stanton,tn zip38069. We have an out building some distance from the house, with clear exposure to the southern sky,--estimating distance from house--200 to 300ft.--with no trees in the distance. Several questions--how far can I run with cable from the satellite to receiver. What satellite is used for the hd--is it 129. And how does one go about finding a local installer--one who does installations that are out of the ordinary. We are willing to pay extra for the installation. I am a brand new newbie on this site, so bear with me--hoping I asked the right questions and explained myself.
Thanks.

If you are going HD then you don't need to use the sats your looking at now. Memphis, Tn locals are on 61.5. You should be moved to Eastern Arc. That uses 61.5, 72.7 & 77. It uses a different dish the 1000.4 & all the receivers need to be VIP MPEG 4 units. How's it look to the S & SSE of you?
Your type font was small but I guess the net porn hasn't destroyed my eyes, I could read it just fine.:D Mike & Ghpr need to get glasses. :haha

the installer was going to put in a new receiver, and dish, but said it couldn,t be done because of trees. I want to go approximately 200-to 250ft from the house, with the dish, where I have clear exposure to the southern sky, and clear exposure to the southwest.

Don't need it

You don't need it. You should be going EA. If your look to the S& SSE is good you need to go to EA. Use Dishpointer and your full address and you will see that Eastern Arc points different direction for the sats for your location.

Hi, what about a poll mount out by itself in the yard? All you need is line of sight to the eastern arc and that array will have a high elevation from TN.

Got to dishpointer.com and enter your address then check the satellites 61.5, 72.7 and 77 west. Zoom way in. Note how the X can be move to anyplace on your yard.

Hope this helps, DC

A 300 ft burial is supposedly the limit. However expensive solid copper cable MUST be used and expect the trenching to cost you at least $1.50 per foot past the first 50 feet. Also, no tech I knew of in 12 years of installing had anything but hand tools to trench.
You're not going to presuade a tech to do 5 hours of digging plus the time ot do the install itself. This knowing full well he most likely had 3-6 more jobs that day.
Aslo a burial of that length would also most certainly require( for the future) the use of additional cable runs in case of failure of the one being used.
Not to say you're out of luck, but you will have a substantial out of pocket expense.
Yes, the third sattleite location for that setup is at 129....
If I was the tech doing the survey, i would have checked the southEASTERN sky as well.

U weren't

U weren't :D & he had an ID 10 T certified guy look at it:eek:. He only knew how to look SW. His neck must get crick in it all the time only looking that way in the wrong freaking arc.

well it looks like you would be going for about a half hour drive or more to find a local retailer. you can go to dish's website and at the bottom of the front page is a link for find a retailer. i searched google for stanton, tn and came up with a zipcode of 38011. i put it in and it brought up these results for a local retailer.

you might mention to them that you have 110 and 119 but were aware of the eastern arc(61.5-72.7-77) and see if they would be able to come switch you out. be aware that with the eastern arc you will have to have all mpeg4 equipment so if you currently have a standard receiver you will most likely have to upgrade your dish and receivers for the eastern arc. good luck and i hope you can get it worked out for you.

according to the installation rules, cable runs can be no longer than 250' from LNB to receiver. any connections between dish and receiver (wall plate, switch, another LNB, etc) removes dbm and thus feet from that line run...

when dish switched from copper cable to copper clad steel cable, there was a significant drop in line run maximums...sadly, this tech was correct in telling you it cant be done with 129...

if the Eastern Arc works, thats probably your only shot short of shooting some trees down.

ACtually since the beginning of 2010 copper clad steel cable for burial was placed on "unapproved"....In fatc I still have a roll of the only cable approved by Dish for burial. It is dual solid copper conductor, flooded direct burial cable with orange jacket. Orange ony..no black permitted.
The reasoning behind the orange is so that the QC inspectors could easily tell if the cable is approved. There is no non flooded cable with orange jacket.

Hi everyone - sorry to hijack this thread but I have a question about this. I am new to the forums, but not to Dish Network (5+ year subscriber).

I am getting upgraded to HD this week and also having the location of the dish moved to a different location (wife didn't like it where it was). Since the new location is a bit difficult, I got the pole in the ground for the installer and also ran RG-6 into the house. The jacket isn't orange, but it was rated for direct burial and also was swept for whatever it needed to be (can't recall now).

Is the installer not going to use the cable that is there ? I ran it myself because I don't believe he would want to do it (it is underground, then through my 2-story shed, then back underground into the house). It's a complicated run because of the layout of my narrow lot with a 100+ year old stone wall with steps - only way to run it was through the shed.

Thanks!

Ok....If it flooded cable, he can use it. Even though the cable is unapproved.
Now, there are "out cards"....Here's one..Note the cable to the tech. He will most likely see that it is not orange. You tell him you were advised to sign off on this exception. The tech will write a statement on the workorder form that indicates ( word it this way) under no circumtances will you allow your property to be dug up or trenched to install a new cable in place of your new cable.
At least in this instance the tech will be covered. If the job is inspected it will fail. QC inspectors don't bother to read notes so he will not see that you signed off on the exception

Hopefully the tech's supervisor will back up the tech and then case closed.
On a lighter note, the tech may tip you....Hell, I would run down to the nearest store and buy you a case of beer for doing that.
