Hello,

I am a dish subscriber but would really like to get the nfl sunday ticket. The main holdback has been the 199.00 fee for the HD DVR that I can get from Dish for free. So I have been reading that some people have been able to get the DVR for free after many attempted calls. SO I was getting ready to call and wanted to see what offers they had on their website and when I went to click the 9.99 for HD above it there was ANOTHER option that you had to pick for 4.99 for all the new "extra HD chanels" WTH???? So now HD is 15.00 not 10?
Here is what it says:

DIRECTV® HD EXTRA PACK - $0.00 for 3 months
Add more HD to your base package. This pack includes channels available only in HD. Free for the first 3 months, and only $4.99/mo. thereafter. Requires HD Access ($9.99/mo.) and at least one HD or HD DVR receiver.

HD Access - $9.99 Monthly
Awaken your senses with access to your favorite shows, movies, sports and events — all broadcast in the mind-blowing clarity of HD.

Yes. It's still cheaper the Dish Network

Yes but only by 5.00 now. The argument they keep giving me is that they were only 10.00 and dish was 20.00 saving me 10.00 a month I would have the 200.00 DVR paid for in 20 months. Now with it being a 5.00 difference do you think I will have a better chance to get a DVR for free?

They usually also have some kind of programming credit for the first 12 months when you sign up or you can get your programming for free for 4 months if you get ST, so I think you an still make up for it one way or another.

New customers who have been able to get HR20's for free have been few and far between.

I was told when I signed up for the HD package during the summer the price I was to pay would not change even if the new subscriber price did, ie, I pay $9.99 and will forever, LOL, what ever that means) I guess the real test of this will be when the price increase goes through and see what my bill looks like.

I believe they're also giving that HD package for free for the first three months, so there's another $15 for you...

You're going to spend about $350 for Sunday Ticket with HD and your worried about $5 ?

LOL> not really spending 350 for sunday ticket they have the promo of free sunday ticket if you pay 69.99 a month for their best program package. Just am torn between both of these carriers. I just bought my first HDTV and is hard to pick but guess I will be happy with either. That 5.00 fee just seemed to make it easier to pick dish as now it is only a 5.00 difference and I get a free HDDVR.

Does Directv do a different deal after we are about 6 weeks into football season?

Also consider the number of HD channels that will be available to you thru the 2 companies.
D* will have 70 or so by the end of October and more to come, how many will DISH have at that time ?

Jimbo

Where are all these "I want it all free!!!" people coming from? D* is giving away ST, $100 online rebate, $50 giftcard, free HD for 3 months and free installation and it's still not enough? Damn.

Yes, D* is going to raise the HD price by $5 for all the extra channels they are adding. It'll cost $15 a month, which is still $5 a month cheaper than E*. By the end of October, D* will have 2x the amount of HD that E* has.

If you are switching mainly for ST, understand that next year, before your contract is up whether you get a free HD-DVR or not, you are going to have to pay $350 to get ST in HD. If you are worried about D* raising their prices $5 to offer 70-100 channels of HD, then maybe you don't really want to switch.

I'm not criticizing just kidding. D* will cost you more up front but a little less in the long run than Dish. I think they're both great services. I can't live without ST though.

This is the best deal out there. I did it last year as a newbie and worked great. My wife was pleased with the movie channels (all of them!) and I got my football. Just remember to go back to a lower package if you don't want to pay 99.00!!

The 5.00 fee is for the EXCLUSIVE HD channels. Honestly, you don't need it. You can pay the 9.99 for the regular stuff, which are channels that are broadcast in SD and HD. Currently there are only 4 channels at the extra five bucks, with 2 more coming?? I don't need em, they're just movie channels that play numerous reruns, and Smithsonian was not that impressive.

Your not getting the Sunday Ticket for free. You pay for Sunday Ticket and get 4 months free of the Premier Package. It says it in the commercial.
