Hey guys. Looking for a little input if someone has a similar situation. I'm looking at getting a new TV for the bedroom. The biggest screen that will work where I can put it is a 26" I currently have a 622 that I use TV2 for the bedroom. It wouldn't be feasable to run HDMI to the bedroom for HD. I looked into getting a second HD receiver, but would want a DVR as well and can't really justify an extra $13 a month for fees. Does anyone know how the output looks of an "HD" channel on TV2 on a HD set? Thanks.

Any HD channel will be down converted to TV2. But on a 26" set, the picture should no be too bad.

As far as I know, TV2 from a 622 or 722 is SD only. I have a 211 to an HD set in my bedroom. I am going to add an external drive to it to record to, but that requires a one time DVR activation fee of like $39. I dont think I have to pay more DVR fees monthly but I could be off on that. Ck the Tech Chat recap for that announcement.

It's not possible to do HD via the TV2 output on any of the dual TV receivers. The output of a HD channel on TV2 on a HD set looks like a DVD played with composite cables to a HD set. Sets that do good upscaling or have smaller screens (like your 26") make the image tolerable. However, it ain't HD. It ain't even top of the line SD as that requires component or HDMI.

The best thing for a bedroom is either a 211 or a 222. The 622 is too hot and noisy for a bedroom, IMHO. You can add a external HD to the 211 with no monthly fee.

All these folks with TVs in the bedroom don't you folks have anything better to do in the bedroom than watch TV?
Like sleep or whatever.
When I go to bed it I could not watch TV since I am asleep in about 5 minuets.

I guess you have never been sick or laid up in bed for several days without any TV.

Where else will my girlfriend and I watch porn? :p

Many of us watch the morning news while getting dressed before work.

I am waiting for some company to come out with a HD transmitter + receiver that will use an existing coax run.
That way I can split the HD output from my 622 and feed my 61" downstairs and 42" upstairs. These wireless HDMI devices could have a female coax on each for a wired antenna type connection via existing rg6 or rg59.

Not sure if they make them anymore, but what you are describing is perfect application for EDTV. I have a 15 inch Sharp EDTV in my kitchen that is connected to my 622's TV2 output and it does a great job with down converted HD signals...they look almost as good as the HD on my big screen.

I have a 32" Samsung HD LCD in my extra bedroom/computer room connected to a 622 as TV2 with the coaxial cable. Downconverted high def programs look very good on this TV. Not high def, but more than acceptable.

If the TV was much larger than 32", it probably wouldn't look as good.

Run component cables from your box to your bedroom and set your box to single mode. You'll have to watch the same thing on TV1 and TV2, but your UHF remote will still change the channels for your from the back. Keep the coax running to TV2 just in case you want to watch something different on both TV's (flip it back to dual mode). You can also flip a 2-way splitter the other direction and run another antenna to TV2 so you can have OTA HD as well on TV2.

Are you able to get the downconverted HD to fill the entire screen with out stretching it on TV2?

Just a random question, but would both TVs be watched at the same time? If not you could run a component cable from TV1 outputs to get HD in the bedroom. This would mean that both TVs would be watching the same thing (and you'd also need to get some sort of remote with an IR zapper to be able to control TV1 from another room), but I have this set up and it works fairly well. If both TVs are being used then the second TV settles for the SD TV2 output.

Edit: Wetz beat me to it!

I have a 32" Panasonic LCD in my daughters bedroom hooked to my 622 with an X10 wireless and composite and I was surprised at how good the picture is on both the SD and HD channels.
I have an LG LCD in our home office hooked to my 722 via coax and there is a distinct difference between the SD and the HD channels with the HD channels being considerably sharper.

I was going to suggest a slingbox/slingcatcher combo for a cable-less solution, but the tubes tell me the slingcatcher only outputs in SD. Looks like it has HDMI output though so maybe a future software update will allow HD output. Anyway -- for the cost of the slingcatcher and the slingbox HD you could probably get a 722k installed (is that the right number?).

I've done the same thing as Wetz73. I got a component video distributor ($49 from Radio Shack) and two 100 foot component cables from Monoprice. I've run a component cable to the bedroom and another to the family room. I diplex my OTA antenna and the coax output from my 622. So, usually we have the same thing on every set - just running the 622 in single mode. But if we want to watch something different, I can choose to use the OTA tuner for local HD signals on the bedroom and family room sets, or I can switch the 622 to dual mode and watch TV Tuner 2 in SD. The biggest drawback to this setup is running the component cable. It's a big sucker and requires some pretty big holes to feed it through floors and walls.
