I was helping my grandfather out this weekend and noticed that he had (in the upper left hand corner) both HD format and SD format showing. My 622 only shows the current picture format, not two of them.

Does he have a 722? Is that what a 722 does or do I need to change something about my set-up to have different formats for each mode?

I hate having to cycle through format when I don't like the looks of the picture.

Thanks all-

SD Format only affect the picture if you're using an SD input, like coax, S-video or composite (red, white, yellow). If you're using HDMI or Component, you use HD Format to cycle through the modes.

Thats the TV itself displaying that. Must be a Visio TV.

You go into the config in the 722 or 622 and set it at whatever you TV is capable of showing. Off of the top of my head I can't tell you where to go exactly.
but for example of if your HD TV is only capable of 720p then set it for that.

Well, I do have the Visio, he has a Panasonic. But it is through the Dish menu, not the TV. It is the title bar at the top of the screen that shows the title of the movie and such. And when you press the format (*) button it displays what format it is in. He has two of them one each for SD & HD.

Sounds like he has a 211, not a 622/722.

The 211 has seperate aspect ratio settings for SD and HD programming, implemented by pressing page up and page dn.

Could be Jim. Is the 211 Silver like the 622? His looks just like mine, that is why I am confused.

He is also set-up, by the D* installer, to get hd (on tv1) and dvr on 2 tv's just like my 622.
