I have the new Directv plus HD DVR. Is is possible to save the shows that I have recorded to lets say a DVD for use on my laptop? I see that there is a USB port on the back panel.

Nope. I'd love to see it, but it doesn't work as of now - not sure if there are any plans for it in the future....
You can record the content on the HR20 as it is played back just like any other TV content. People have done this with DVD Recorders and even connections to inputs on computer video capture cards. You're basically talking SD only though.
Right - if you can plug the non-HD output of the HR20 to a stand-alone recording device, that will work... but nothing with the USB port and using a PC at this point, although I'd love to see it.
But then the networks would never sell any more DVD sets, so I doubt it will happen.
