hd dvr Receiver question upgrade

we have had d 2 months now. hd receiver,hd dvr receiver and a standard receiver.
we just brought new lcd tv and need hd dvr to replace the standard receiver.
is it better to buy right from dt or go to best buy and buy one. does dt charge you to come out to hook up if you purchase threw them. does anybody suggest buying threw ebay on a item like this.
just looking for suggestions.

Buying one through ebay is a real crap shoot. You need to get all the receiver data from the seller and call D first to make sure that it isn't a leased box - and to make sure there isn't $ outstanding on that dude's account. Also, you could easily get a problem box that way.

You might be better off calling D and having them do it. Unless you have a SWM set-up, you will need to run another line to the new DVR (old SD box was non-DVR) which by my count puts you up to 5 coax runs - with 4 ports available at the LNB. You are going to need a switch somewhere.

Unless you are pretty comfortable running a new line and installing a new switch, you may just want to bite the bullet and make the call.

If you decide to DIY - tons of help here to talk you through the process.

Costco has them for $169 right now. You won't get a better deal from D*. But Mike is right, you will need a second line run and a multiswitch installed, unless you havea SWM LNB. I doubt you have a multiswitch now, since you are using four tuners, and the dish can handle that without the switch.

Look at your dish, how many lines are coming out?

He'll probably be better going thru D* seeing he'll need another line AND a Multiswitch . D* will more than likely provide the MS that would cost outright if you were to do it yourself.
