Howdy! Dish sent me a 211 to swap-out for my 811. It came with component cables (and the composite/S-video cables - why do they bother with those ??) as well as a 6' HDMI to DVI cable and a short DVI/HDMI adapter. Putting those together you have HDMI/HDMI if that's what your system needs as mine does, but what about the audio that's not part of the DVI protocol? I started out with separate audio connections.

When I activated the new receiver, I asked the techie what the story was with that. She didn't know and disappeared for a moment to ask someone else who apparently didn't know either.

Bottom line - after I had the system running using that cable/adapter and a separate audio cable, I disconnected the latter and I still had audio from the TV via just the HD cable, so apparently that pair of DVI connectors is configured to carry the audio.

I thought some others who are doing their upgrades might have had a similar question or experience, or perhaps some different information provided by Dish.

BTW - What audio is coming from the 211? Is it DD5.1 (program dependent of course) or just stereo ??

TIA and BRgds...

I'm using the composite audio cables from the 211, along with the HDMI->DVI adapter for video. Those composite cables can come in handy. I suppose the composite audio does stereo, but the optical audio should do Dolby 5.1.

Tks M. I agree that the composite cables will be stereo only. When I get a decent SS system I'll connect via that optical connection. In the interim, I have the "HD" cable carrying audio. HDMI was supposed to be 5.1 unless I'm mistaken. I'm wondering if the 211 outputs 5.1 via that connection...?
