If you're thinking about picking up a first or second generation HD DVD player from Toshiba, consider the pot sweetened. The promotion doesn't apply until November 1st, so walk, don't run to your local retailer and keep the receipt. Mail it in with the above form and in a speedy 8 to 10 weeks you will be the proud owner of at least three HD DVDs. One each from column A, B and C, customers will get one disc from each of the three major studios so far supporting HD DVD. Free is exactly the right price to us; but while three discs compares well to the one free movie that comes the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on and PlayStation 3, having to wait two months pretty much kills the warm fuzzies. This offer does not apply to the Toshiba-built RCA HDV5000, but it does include the HD-A2W we haven't seen before; Toshiba tells us its not an entirely new model but a limited club edition like the HD-D1. List of titles is after the break.

What is HD-A2W?

So when will A2 finally ship?

I'm tired of this BSing, seriously - now VE's site says Nov 13... it used to be end of October, then Nov 6 and now Nov 13... Toshiba should STFU until it cannot hard launch something.

A couple weeks is nothing compared to all of the delays that the BR players have gone through. Just look at the Sony and Pioneer players.
They keep getting pushed back months at a time.

Although there are not major differences between the A1 and A2, there sre some. It is supposed to have faster processing. It does eliminate 5.1 through the analogs. The XA2 will output 1080p (though at 60)

If you have an A1, why would anyone purchase an A2 now. I would think the A1 should get you by until a GREAT HDDVD unit comes out. You guys talk about HDDVD being cheaper, yet you buy the second gen 7 months after the original it is almost the same unit. That doesn't sound like the price savvy consumers you all make yourself out to be.
