I have a 1000.2 dish with a dp34 switch. I receive 110, 119 and 129. I'm only using two outputs right now, living rm and bedroom. Single cable connection to each room. Bedroom has a 311 receiver, Plain old TV (POTV)
Living room has 510 DVR for Dish, Zenith HD-SAT520 HDTV OTA receiver (DirectV, but only used or OTA) with outside antenna. TV is a Sony KV36XBR400 with component HDTV inputs but NO HDMI inputs.
I get all the major networks in HD OTA on the Zenith, and am happy with that. For DVR and non-broadcast I use Dish. I'm satisfied with Standard Definition on the DVR function, for now anyway. I know I will have HDTV DVR someday, but figure the longer I wait the better my price/performance ratio will be.
My Frustration is Football on ESPN, etc that looks bad on Dish. I'm spoiled by the Free HDTV OTA. I'm trying to avoid any new 2 year contract with Dish since I've found they treat me SOOO much better when they know I can cancell my service at any time.
Finally, my question. What should I do to get ESPN and other dish shows in HD? Add a Dish HDTV reciever that I pick up used to get Dish HDTV? I was looking at a Dish 811. It should probably get HDTV OTA, and replace the Zenith reciever. Then I would keep the 510 DVR for DVR function. I have two 1080i component inputs on the Sony XBR.
Will I need to run another cable from the Dish to the living room?
Clearly I'm cheap, but appreciate a good quality system and willing to deal with it not being leading edge.
