I was contemplating buying the Starmate 5 but I haven't seen details of the A La Carte package. Can you truly pick any channel from either service and how much is it?
Has anybody tired Sirius A La Carte?

Not yet. Right now there are Best of packages where you can get the sports and all, but not any channel. I am patiently waiting on that as I'd like to add XM's 90's and 80's so I have double variety of the music

I'm an XM subscriber and I added the Best of Sirius yesterday for $4/month extra. That gave me Howard,NFL,Nascar,AC/DC.
I want some other music channels off Sirius though. Right now XM doesn't have their A La Carte hardware out yet.
