The problem with ground rods is, when you use one you MUST bond it to your homes ground service point. Most of the DIY hardware stores seem to be carrying them in these parts (Menards/Home Depot)

Another problem here is the weather seems like half the year the ground is frozen solid so they are seldom used, but its a good idea if coupled to your homes service point.
