Google looking to buy rights to NFL Sunday Ticket?

IMO, this a ploy by the NFL to get more money out of DTV. There's no way they'll sell that package as streaming only so they would immediately lose the exclusivity and would actually lower the overall value of Sunday Ticket.
 
I still believe ST will end up being offered to all providers.DTV will no longer have exclusive contract.
 
and that would absolutely destroy most people bandwidth caps. they are moving as much as they can online, then they will start billing by the GB, and then we will get to watch the bills skyrocket. jmo...
 
250gb a month, assuming you even have anything but a soft cap is an amazing amount of data. Even if all you do is torrent crap all day to watch.

I doubt D*keeps Sunday ticket and I'll be glad when it's gone from exclusive.

I think the opposite is the case.
ST is priced due to demand and limited supply.
If all providers have rights, the supply increases and the price goes down.
And I don't think ST will get the significant jump in subscription buys to make non exclusive distribution profitable.
Unless of course the NFL is successful in 'setting' the minimum subscription price.
Sort of like what Samsung has done to the retailers,especially big box retailers. That company has told retailers to stop discounting their brand or face loss of the right to sell Samsung products.

I think many of these may already be in effect.

It's possible that the NFL is telling D* how much they need to sell it for and they probably have an avg. they are meeting.

I doubt that the price will go down all that much if it is available for all providers, seeing D* has set the price already, the other providers now know what they can offer it for, slightly less than what D* had it for and they will look like the hero.
 
I think when it is all said and done with D will keep exclusive. They do this song and dance each time. I don't think anything will change. And honsetly, I hope it dont
 
Exclusivity is what keeps ST worth as much as it is. There's no way it's worth if it's available thru all providers and then there's the issue of network affiliate backlash.

DTV may pay a bit more for the next contract but it's in both parties' best interests to get an exclusive deal done.

I seriously don't think the NFL is one bit concerned about network backlash.Whatever gains them the most cash,is what they are looking for.
 
At one billion per year dtv needs about 7,000,000 such scribers at $150 each to make any money and at the rate they give it away they must make thru over all subscription numbers than the programming itself - if they lost to Dish say - how many would drop dtv ? And if dish won the rights they'd be paying Ur cancel fee to get your subscription..... I agree it only has value being exclusive that is why dtv had nearly double the subscription than dish what else can explain the gap......

You forget bars, hotels, casino and such that pays thousands of dollars for ST programming. That makes a big dent in making up any difference. Plus they look at it as a loss leader, give it away to get new subs or to keep existing ones.

They don't need to profit off ST subscriptions only. They only need to profit on the full subscription with ST.

If other providers did get ST, how many of them would have the ability to carry every game in HD?


Those that also carry EI, CI, and LP cannot match what DirecTV provides for these packages either.

Dish would have no problem telecasting 13 HD NFL games per Sunday.Turn off a few of those PPV channels for a few hours,turn them back on after the games.I believe at one time DTV used to do that.

At the same time LP and CI are going on? I don't think they have enough PPV. That's why DirecTV has so many PPV channels.

Sure,they don't have to create special channels for LP,as they are basically on rsn channels that they already carry.And again,your talking about 1 day a week from 1pm until 7:30 pm.The jest of those are on in the 1pm to 4pm time slot.

every system has ppv movies does it drive down the price ?........get real

Don't you guys remember all the bitching that went on when D* took several channels OFF the air from 1-7 on Sundays and it was only a few select channels.

Can you imagine if all these providers were faced with the same situation where they had to shut down channels ?

Even those D* people that were screaming about all the PPV's space that was being wasted that could go to other things.
