how do i go from connecting 2 receivers on a dish 500 to connecting 3 receivers i have had the same set up for the past year

We would have to know what type of receivers you have, as well as your LNB and switch configuration. The latter can be found by doing a checkswitch under the system Menu.

Most likely you will have a Dish Pro Twin if it is a year old, you would need a DP34 switch to expand it to 4 receivers. But as webbydude said it helps to have as much information as possible to give a correct answer.

What he prolly needs is a quad for add'l receivers.
But he could save money by getting a Dish Pro Plus lnb and upgrade to a twin tuner.
