Hi Folks,

I'll try my best explaining what I saw...

I have a GI 650i analog C/Ku band receiver.
And I bought it on ebay back in 2004.
And is still using it and RUNNING since.

What I discovered when I was using it o
salve with the GEO SAT RO HDVR-3500 Digital FTA receiver,
for a LONG TIME........
ALL the sudden by SURPRISE my GI 650i receiver wnet
POWER OUTAGE!!!!

YES!! What really scared me is NO DISPLAYS on the front panel
of the GI 650i analog C/Ku band receiver which controls the
dish actuator arm.

It acted like POWER OUTAGE.

NO, there's NO weather storm that would cause it.

This happened 3 times in 3 months.

Once a month.

So, the most recent occurred was YESTERDAY.
May 19th.

It happened in the middle of watching STAR TREK on MeTV EAST Coast
on Galaxy 16 C-band.
ALL the sudden, I got NO signal.
At FIRST, I thought it was the wind was shaking the dish.

NO!!! I noticed NO DISPLAYS on the GI 650i receiver's front panel!!!

That's REALLY SCARED ME!!!

So, what I did to solve the problem was to....

Unplug he receive from the original outlet wall,
and plug it into a power strip from a different outlet wall.

Sometimes it doesn't work, like last month.
But this time when I plug it into a different source,
IT WORKS!!! DISPLAYS APPEARS ON FRONT PANEL!!!

It shows TIME and DATE on the front panel.

Later last night, I try plug it back into the original
outlet on the wall, where I always have since 2004,
IT WORKS!!!

Last month was worse, I had to plug it into different
source outlet wall to get the receiver power up and running
That took me almost half an hour to hope ti would be up and running.
After that, then I plug it back to the original outlet.

So, my question is for all of you, why and what's causing the
GI 650i analog receiver to have a POWER OUTAGE ALONE????

Maybe it could be electricity over loaded????

The TV and the FTA receiver, alone are fine. They do NOT
act power outage. Just the GI 650i analog C/Ku band receiver,
act alone of Power outage.

Could this be the power supply in the receiver???
Or could it be the transponder that's running.
You can feel the transponder by hand on the receiver, as well.
You can't hear it, but you can feel it. That's normal : - )))

Anyone knows why it acted POWER OUTAGE alone????

Better NOT happen next time while watching and record
an FTA channel.

It happened once before when I was watching the analog
C-band, which was the LOTTO drawing. And when that
does happen, you'll see a black screen on your TV.
That means the analog receiver is TURNED OFF
AUTOMATICALLY. But the DISPLAYS on the
front panel is still there.
NOT power outage. It just turned off itself.

So, that's the brief history of this GI 650i C.Ku band analog
satellite receiver with TURNS OFF and POWER OUTAGE,
by act it's alone.

I thought that I would give a shot by asking you folks,
are you familiar to this POWER OUTAGE act alone by
a receiver???? IF so, then WHY it's doing it by WITHOUT
NOTICE.

My brother who's a computer software engineer told me this.
"You never know what electronic is going to do," : - )))

What do you think????

So far, so good, it's still up and running, NOW at this time.

Hope all helps with answers.

Thanks,
Eugene

If I read your post correctly, you only have the problem when it's plugged into one specific outlet, works properly when another outlet is used?

Hi Lak7,

Thanks for your response : - )))

YES, the outlet that the GI 650i receiver has always been plug in on a 4 outlet frame
on the wall.

1 for the TV set, 2 is for the GI 650i analog receiver, 3 is the COMCAST Cable box, and 4 is
the power surge protector for the FTA receiver and other stuff.
But it has NO problem since 2004, up until 3 months ago, for the first time seeing
JUST the GI 650i receiver POWER OUTAGE.

And YES, I plug in the GI 650i receiver on a different SINGLE frame wall outlet, and
got it to work. Then about 5 minute later, I plug in back to a 4 outlet frame, and it
works, again.

Do I make it clearly???

It's still powers up in the wall frame of 4 outlets.

Thanks,
Eugene

Sounds like receivers internal power supply electrolytic capacitors are old and failing. In the time it takes to switch recepticals they discharge so when plugged in again it works. Next time it occures try just unplugging wait some time then replug in same socket. Possibly yeild same result. If it was me I would remove cover and inspect for swollen caps and recap if necessary. If it continues you can take it to electronics or tv repair but probably just time to replace with asc1 or vbox, but vbox has no polarity control and I know from your other posts you use feed with servo.

Unplug first! .........."remove cover and inspect for swollen caps and recap if necessary."

There is also the Nextwave NCC-600 receiver - $50 on ebay.
