Getting service today

After 10 years with E*, I had enough. Today the installers come and install my new service with D*. I'm getting the Plus HD DVR package and added the xtra HD channels, so other than the movie channels, I should get all the HD channels. The installer is also bringing the AM21 OTA turner to go with the HR21. I'm wanting to add the external drive, a large one. I'm currently using a WD Mybook 500 gig with the VIP622, but uses USB. Does the HR21 support this drive? Of not, what would be the best compatible drive to get?

Good luck with your install! I haven't added an external drive so I'm no expert but they use an esata connection. At dbstalk there are a lot of discussions about which drives are best and which ones won't work.

You'll need one with an eSATA connection.

I wish I could say that I was enjoying Direct TV, but I can't. The installer shows up and asked if I was ready for my upgrade. I told him this was for a full install. All he brought was the HD DVR receiver...no dish or cable. I asked to look at the order. We both looked at it and it had everything listed, even the AM21. He did not even know what that was. I told him that when they called yesterday and today they read the list to me and said everything was in stock and would be on the truck. When he called the office, they told him they did not even have the AM21's in yet. Direct TV is shipping it to me and I'm to call Premier then to re-schedule. This guy had the Direct TV shirt and hat, but was wsorking from his personal minivan. Must be a sub-contractor.

The installer didn't even have the Slimline dish on his truck ?
Thats odd , everytime I run into a D* installer they always have plenty on hand ( I see them quite often in my line of work).

Reschedule and also talk to D* about compensating you for the screwed up install.

I hate to say that I wasn't surprised to see it was Premier. (3 D* installs in my case - 10 technician visits)

But I'm loving my D* regardless!

No big surprise it was premier BUT even tho he was working out of his own vehicle he isnt a sub cause premier has COV and POV vehicles and honestly there was no reason for him to not have everything. BUT premier is like every other HSP they treat there techs like crap and only have a handful of techs who have been installing for more than 6 months!!!
