I pay for programming on 4 birds.
G3
W5
G0
C3
(G1-167 for updates)

Now I am having problems with G3
Everything was working fine until the middle of the night on Friday the 6th and on Sat morning I could not get anything on G3.

I have tried to find it because I thought maybe the wind blew the dish/jack around but I can't get any quality at all (quality 1). The signal alternates between 100 and 10.
I thought maybe a tree got in the way, but overnight?
All the rest of the system works great. All channels all birds except G3
I can't even get "you have to have a subscription to get this channel" Just nothing, like it's not there
I got a rehit this morning and it made no difference

I'm getting Signal 100 Quality 99 so G3 is working here. Every so often my 922 is off a few counts and I have to move the dish over about 7 to ten clicks to regain best signal. Most of the time I have to move it to the west.

What size dish?

What happens when u press options 605 and goto the C menu (I think its the C Menu) for your true EBNO reading?

From Iceberg;

"Options 6-0-5 right arrow to Diagnostic C. IN the right corner there is a + - number. The higher the + number, the more signal you have. It will stay at -3.0 to start"

"The key thing with these DCII boxes is they are PAINFULLY slow to react when aiming a dish. "

Hopefully that will help

Third line down on the far right side I have a +9.8

We've had rainy weather this weekend and I am starting to get into the trees way over there. I guess the rainfade + wet trees might do it.
During windstorms I would lose lock occasionally when it was working.

Maybe I'm just below the signal lock threshold?

Time for a chainsaw?

You might look at your TDT count too. Go to diagnostics screen G to see what the TDT (Transponder Data Table) count is, when it reaches 1920 strange things can happen.

To get to the diagnosis screen do options 6, 0, 5 and push the left arrow
key once to get to diagnosis screen G. In the middle of the top line is a
four digit number.

It's 1748

I did a spread sheet on my Sats and their positions and how many counts I have between and I should be sitting right on G3

Pesky trees I bet

I would think that with a EBNO reading of +9.8 you should be getting something.

From Iceburg

The higher the ebno, the less amount of rain fade you have. In most cases these are the "guidelines"
+3.5 to have a signal
+3.5 to +5.0 to keep a stable picture...rain fade very possible
+5.0 to +6.0 nice solid picture but rain fade is possible
+6.0 to +8.0 strong signal
+8.0 to +10.0 really strong picture
+10.0 and above....highly unlikely the signal would ever go out :)

You could try (if you think your on or close to G3) Options 6 4 4 select G3 scroll down to Auto Peek Dish and see if that helps. Auto Peek with Skew too.

I tried that a few times and nothing. Not even a bump in signal or quality
I can do that on the rest of the birds and see results

+9.8 is a great signal so you should have picture

might need to call your provider and have them rehit it

I'm starting to suspect your not on G3.

You are right but I sure can't figure out how it got that way.
I found it at (my dish position) 4746 it was at 4775 30 clicks off from where it is now, yet the other birds are right where they are supposed to be?

It's working now Signal 100 Quality 75

I'd really like to know how this could have happened. If it's an indicator that something is going south with the mount or jack I'd like to fix it before it fails altogether.

Good news.:)

Like I stated in an earlier post my count occasionally changes 7 to 10 counts. Like you it's only on one or two Sat's. One time when I had the wrong actuator selected in the dish settings menu the count changed about 30.

glad it was something simple

very odd that that 4DTV showed a high ebno number but no picture. But then again my 905 use to show the last "Good" ebno number. SO if I was at a +9.0 and quickly swung the dish off that satellite, it would still show that ebno until I locked on another satellite

another motorola "feature" Thank god the Starchoice units dont do that. You move off the satellite, ebno goes to -3.0

I just wish I could imagine how the jack would send out more counts than it takes to get to a position. I could understand less counts

I have a new Von Weise jack that I have not wanted to use til I get to the new house, but maybe it's time to consider that.
