G 26 - Programming Question

What is the deal with 11865 V The University Network and some of the other frequencies on there that just have DVB listed, but, no F.

Are these NOT FTA channels? Are they 4DTV or some format that cannot be decoded with a standard FTA box?

If they are 4DTV, how can you tell?

Look for the words "DigiCipher II" in the "Video/Encryption" column. If it says "DVB" in that column, a FTA receiver would at least be able to scan them.

As to whether or not a channel is encrypted, you can always just scan it and delete it later if it turns out to be encrypted. In my case, I have a Mercury II and I always scan with the "Scan FTA+CAS" option and then delete out the encrypted stuff after the fact. The Mercury doesn't understand the actualy encryption, it just sees a status bit in the signal that means the signal is encrypted. Once in a while the broadcaster goofs up and sets that bit incorrectly, so the Mercury puts a blue dot on that channel even though it's really FTA.

I assume you're looking at Lyngsat?

When there is only one channel in the mux (group of channels) the color coding is what is free.
When there is multiple channels (see the Macy's one at the end) each channel that is free will say "F" on it (usually). Reason is some muxes have channels that are scrambled and some that are free on the same transponder (IA5 for example)

digicipher channels cannot be received with a dvb fta box. You have to have a 4dtv unit - DSR-905, 920, 922
