Subject: The truth about Reindeer

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME: According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning winter, usually late November to mid-December.
Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to
EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolphto Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag an overweight man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost !!!

:) :)

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, neither male nor female reindeer can fly which pretty much negates the whole Santa thing anyway... :)

What the heck does the Alaskan Fish and game commission know about the German legend of Santa Claus anyway? These special reindeer live in a secret town in northern Finland. Here is the official FAQ on Santa's Reindeer:

http://www.petcaretips.net/santas-reindeer.html

What Makes Santa's Reindeer Fly?

Long ago, Santa Claus and the elves discovered the special formula of Magical Reindeer Dust which make them fly. This dust is sprinkled on each of the reindeer shortly before they leave on Christmas eve. It gives them enough magic to fly right around the world. They can fly very fast: at about the speed of a Christmas
light.

The Reindeer driven by Santa Claus are the only known flying Reindeer in existence. Besides the Magic Dust, Santa's reindeer are fed a "special" diet throughout the year which helps give them the power of flight.

This magic corn is given to Santa Claus by a great and
wonderful unknown wizard. Through this magic corn, the strength of the Reindeer is increased threefold, their stamina increased to infinity and their hooves can manipulate the air as though it were solid ground.

Also, according to this FAQ, satelliteGAL is also correct about the male / female debate but it seems she is a bit over the top on calling female reindeer "women. " Given the additional fact that these reindeer are all named , male names, except for Vixen, maybe these reindeer are more accurately dykes meaning that they are female but lesbian with male roles.

My opinion is that the magic dust that makes them fly on Christmas eve, also allows these all male and one female reindeer to retain their antlers until their mission is complete. Therefore to apply the rules for antlers on reindeer without magic dust may be inaccurate.
Also, Santa, is the one who navigates the sleigh pulled by the reindeer and his Santa who determines who is naughty or nice and then that is what routes his itinerary. Rudolph has a red nose that is bright enough to guide Santa's direction much the same way we use headlights on our cars at night. Rudolph is not the navigator, just the headlight.

Now, if you don't believe in Santa Clause, then go bah humbug somewhere else. If I were to explain the legend of Santa Clause to a child, I would explain it as above, with the power of Magic dust, without all the male - female superior nonsense. All children who believe in Santa need is the continuation of the wonderful story of Santa and his mission for children all over the world. When children get older, the magic will be gone soon enough so enjoy the magic of Christmas with them as long as you can. It's fun! Merry Christmas!
