Boy did I know you were gonna have a comment.

First everyone said "another 1.0, ughhh". Now all its gonna be is "another profile 1.1, ughhh". If I understand it, 2.0 is not a standard, 1.1 is. Rightfully so. If they can make a player cheaper without the ram and internet connection they should. Im sure some will have 2.0 but they'll cost more. Some of you guys bitch regardless, which is why its so fun to read your posts. You missed the larger point, everyone here is bitching about price since HDDVD is dying. Well, here is what appears to be a great player for a great price.

Profile 1.0:

64 KB of built in persistent memory required
no additional persistent memory capability required
no outlining support for text based subtitles required
no SD PiP decoding required
no secondary audio decoding required
no internet capability required

Bonus View:

64 KB of built in persistent memory required
256 MB of persistent memory capability required
outlining support for text based subtitles required
SD PiP decoding required
secondary audio decoding required
no internet capability required

BD-Live:

64 KB of built in persistent memory required
1 GB of persistent memory capability required
outlining support for text based subtitles required
SD PiP decoding required
secondary audio decoding required
internet capability required

If 2.0(internet connection) is that important to you, good for you. You are in the minority. :river

I like the fact that they left internet and extra ram as optional. Allows for cheaper 1.1 player and more costly 2.0 players.

Funai Press Release:

Funai Corporation, Inc., the North American sales and marketing subsidiary of Funai Electric Co., Ltd., today announced the introduction of its first Blu-ray Disc player (NB500 series) for the North American market.

The Company will begin production in the first quarter of 2008, and plans to begin selling the player at retail stores in North America during the second quarter. The retail price is projected to be under $300. Demand for players that supports High Definition contents is increasing swiftly in the U.S. market thanks to the rapid spread of Full HD flat-panel televisions in addition to FCC mandate to switch from analog to digital formats. In the consumer products market in particular, movie and music contents are becoming more common in the Blu-ray Disc format, and shipments of specialized disc players and game machines compatible with Blu-ray Disc products are increasing. Within the healthy competitive environment in this next-generation DVD market, the Blu-ray Disc format is steadily enhancing its market position. The player supports Profile 1.1 (Final Standard Profile), the latest Blu-ray Disc format standard, and will allow consumers to fully enjoy the Blu-ray Disc HD experience. The product is expected to further stimulate the Blu-ray Disc market, and enable customers to appreciate movies and music with even higher resolutions and higher quality sound.

More to come...

no it would still be junk, but 100 dollar junk not 300 dollar junk.

Venturer, Funai, Coby, Insignia, Dynex, Emerson, Vizio etc = crap. Seriously, 300 dollars for a Funai???? This thread should have been meant as a joke.

Yepp, we've all heard how great the Venturer HDDVD will be, now the Funai is junk? Please.

I love all this one sided BS. WB sucks because they did the same thing Paramount did(fine by us at that time!) Funai is junk, but boy that venturer woulda been nice!
